That’s probably why you’re not noticing as many problems then. Coming from someone who is highly sensitive to lag and stutter (never was until iOS 7 because it barely existed before then, especially on new hardware), iOS 11 is just terrible.
What we mean by stutter and lag is just generally swiping, scrolling and interacting with the device. In iOS 6 this was rock solid and didn’t have any “judder” like you get when going over a bumpy road. That’s what iOS today is like: generally smooth until you ride over a rough patch on a road. The Twitter App doesn’t scroll smooth like say Safari, neither does YouTube, Instagram or Facebook. And those are apps that millions use every day. Try it yourself, scroll up and down in Safari, it’s fluid and smooth isn’t it? Now do the same in the YouTube app. Stutter, stutter, judder, judder. I know those are third party apps but I believe it’s due to the whole iOS 7 redesign Apple did in 2013, it’s like it messed everything up with how they ‘recoded’ everything or something. Apps just aren’t as smooth in terms of scrolling and just don’t feel as solid. Heck, even the App Store itself stutters when scrolling up and down and left to right through apps, so does the Watch App and the Music App so it’s not just third party apps. They feel like they run at 30fps at best (especially YouTube), not 60fps like they are supposed to and should do today. This is especially noticeable on an 120hz iPad Pro which only shows it up even more.
The whole OS just doesn’t feel as stable as it once did in the past and it’s especially bothersome to me when I compare it next to my five year old iPhone 5 running iOS 6 and notice how much more stable, smooth and rock solid the latter is. It is shocking to see the difference and there just isn’t any excuse for it considering the crazy-fast processors we have in iOS devices today. You can’t just throw hardware at everything with 120hz refresh rates, faster processors etc. and think it will magically fix poorly optimised software. That is exactly what they are doing in my view and it saddens me because it used to be the complete opposite.
We just expect more from Apple instead of this whole “well it’s good enough” mentality because that’s what they used to offer us and those that complain on here just want said quality back.
