Sold a 3 year old metal detector (bought new for $599, so I couldn't BELIEVE what it went for on ebay).... Sold for $500

EEE 1000HE Netbook: $300

That gave me my $800 for the 64GB with a couple extras.

Was prepared to buy / eyeing up the 27" iMac but put off by screen problems - now iPad very appealing after initially not caring!!

On eBay . . . I can believe it
You did well! :D

Obama is paying for it.

But at the end, he is taxing for it in other ways.

I out on my AMEX :) which later gets paid by my checking.

Every Monday through Friday I spend between 8 and 11 hours each day performing a series of tasks for the benefit of other people.

In exchange, those people deliver a sum of money to my bank account once every other Friday.

I took a portion of this money and spent it on an iPad.

Revolutionary idea, I guess.

i sold my macbook air and pimp my wife for the rest of the money to fund my ipad project!!!!!!!!!!

Sold my HP Laptop and a 5 year old watertight camera backpack. I came out, cause the backpack was won in a contest 5 years ago and sold for $250 which was a deal as the original price was $550. The HP laptop wasn't cutting it for me in terms of fast access, I have a iPod but the screen is honestly only good for a few things. I would get a laptop down the line, for photo editing, but my desktop handles all of my heavy duty tasks.

My father died in February 2009. He was my first and best Geek Example. He worked for the railroad (NP, BN, BNSF) all his life, but loved all things geeky and/or tech. He brought home our first calculator (where each number in the display was a separate tube) that cost over $100 and could add, subtract, multiply and divide only. We were all amazed by it. He and I spent more quarters than I can count when Pong came out. In his 80's, I got him into Linux and Open Office, he watched Tech TV (before it became games only) and loved all things tech. Most of my inheritance went into the family fund, what remains will buy an energy-efficient washer, dryer and kitchen range and pay for my geek toys. Part of it already bought the MBP I'm using to type this, part bought my first iPod Touch and some will buy my iPad. Dad would most definitely approve; I only wish he was still around to play with it. He'd have loved it.

Really lovely to read.

I'll be selling my Kindle DX (after I know for sure that Kindle app is approved). The rest of the $ will be from overtime.

$3500 tax return, a few hundred dollars from Chegg.com on Visa gift cards for putting the code in my sig, on retailmenot.com, and around campus, and a few hundred saved from Christmas and my birthday. Yes, that's right, I'm buying seven iPads! Except that I'm actually only getting one 32gb WIFI, heh. The rest of that money will be spent on a cheap vacation with the wife this summer, iPhone 4GS++ Mk II Pro (or whatever), a Canon 7d (selling off some old equipment for that also) followed by a purchase of either a Core i7 iMac this fall or some sort of quad-core MBP next year. I haven't decided yet. $4200-ish ought to cover all of that, right?

$600 - 32gb Wifi iPad
$500 - Cheap Roadtrip to Yellowstone
$400 - Next iPhone
$1500 Canon 7d minus $800 old body, 3 lens = $700
$2000 - New Mac (Sure, $2k or less)

$4200 haha wow I'm good. I had never even added that up until now. Though I kinda need a bigger hard drive right now. 1.5tb total isn't cutting it. I'd also like to get a few iPad accessories.

That's $5000, not $4200.

My parents started the day I was born, putting one penny each day into a large (huge) glass jar. When I moved out of their house, I took the jar with me and have continued adding a penny each day.

So when the iPad was first available for pre-order I emptied the jar. There was $193.58 worth of pennies. Not enough for an iPad..

So I've put all those pennies back into the jar, and am still adding one more each day. I'll buy my iPad when there are enough pennies in the jar to pay for one. That should take another 60 years or so, unless Apple lowers the price. :D

I've put a label on the jar now. It says "Contents explicitly for purchasing and iPad. Don't empty before value enclosed matches price + tax of an iPad." This should keep my decendants honest. :D

I don't have a job so I was selling my blood at first but then I won a lottery so it's all good.

I work for it, simply. I won't be paying for it using a credit card either. :)

Wise to not go into debt, but I *ALWAYS* make such purchases on my American Express Gold Card. AmEx has reimbursed me for two laptops so far, that each died shortly AFTER the manufacturer's warranty expired. $3,000 or so. AmEx adds a year to your warranty (used to double it, but 1 year is pretty good). In fact, they even rebated me the difference when the original iPhone dropped $200 within 2 months of availability.

As to the original question, I sold my HP netbook, which I have no plans to use once the iPad is in my hands. I also plan to pay for it through the sale of my apps, including iPad-specific versions!

I'm 17 finishing High. So I basically sold my ipod touch in january $200 + plus I have gotten about $200 in doing odd computer work since then. Plus my Birthday was in Feb, and I told my Dad that I didn't want anything, just to help me some to get an iPad when it comes out. All of that means I have plenty for an iPad. Now just trying to decide whether it is worth it to pay another $100 for 32gb or not? I used to get by fine with 16gb on my iPod touch, but will I need more on the iPad

You seem like an enterprising, responsible young person. That is refreshing to see now :D Well, you need to consider what you plan on installing on your iPad. 16 GB may suit your needs or you may want to bump it up to 32 GB. If your parents are tech savy, why not check with them for assistance. They may have some insight into your storage needs.

As you are saying, you are fine with 16 GB on your iPod Touch but as the iPad is a whole new device it might be wise to go for the 32 GB. You can put movies and all that sorts of stuff on it (and it's much nicer to do that on the iPad than on the iPod Touch). If 32 GB is too much, than you know that if you buy a new version of the iPad in one of two years (if you like the iPad).

Better a bit too much, than a bit too less. Like currently I've got about 1300 songs on my iPhone (32 GB) and very soon I'm going to add more. Currently I also have the following movies on it: Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Final Destination 3, Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince, Public Enemies, The Simpsons Movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, South Park: Imaginationland, Wanted, Zombieland, 17 Again and season 12 and 13 from South Park.

So about 1300 songs, 37 videos, almost 400 photographs and 151 apps. I've still got 12 GB left.

Now I know I'm going to use the iPad much more, and of course I want movies in high quality so that's going up, I'm going to download more songs and there are going to be bigger apps for the iPad. Than I think I will reach pretty quick 25 to 30 gb. So for my it might be better to take the 64 GB, to be sure. But I might also have enough with the 32 GB.

So the decision I have to make is 32 GB versus 64 GB. It will probably be 32 GB, as I need to save money and I'm already running out of harddisk space on my PC.

But for you there might be a big difference. With me there's a difference of +32GB. With you 'just' +16GB.

Thanks  No there not savy, i'm the one into tech :p

I am very good at management so I may go with 16gb + dock (want photo frame) + some nice in ear earphones. Or 32gb + dock and get earphones later. Just trying to decide how big apps will be compared to the iphone counterparts and how many I will use, and I can always swap out movies, just not apps. Also I am trying to think ahead as to which one will be easier to sell, when the iPad 2 comes out and 32gb will be the base model, well the 16gb on the old still hold it's ground or will 32gb sell better? Lots of things to think about, but I know things will work out. :apple:

You made some good points. Looks like I will try to get 32gb and dock. On Wednesday! Just sad I have to wait until the 12th, o well I will live. I have been going since beginning of January without an iPod (sold it before the keynote while I could get the most for it).
