A stressful desk job, beer, and marriage should pack on the pounds. ;)

While I'm not married, I can agree about the desk job. I have always been very active and in better than average shape. I am lucky that I have filled out well (6'1",195lbs) but having a desk job is killing me. I probably have gained 15-20lbs since i started last year. First, sitting all day doesn't help, I don't really build an appetite for lunch, but I eat anyways. Then when I get home I am either too tired to workout or it is too dark outside to run, so usually watch tv.

Why would you want to gain weight? If you just had the right outfit you'd make a fabulous emo. You've got the body for it.

You shall burn for such wicked talk!

Hummer I'm your height and about the same weight (145 lbs). When I work out with just with a couple of 20 pounder dumbells daily for 15-30 mins, I can gain 5-10 pounds in a month or two. But when i stop working out I keep going back to the same old 145 lbs. You have to have a CONSTANT routine of working out. I'm starting mine back up since summer is coming.

Do not eat garbage! I was in your situation as well and the only way you're going to do this is through weight training. I did it, so can you, but it's HARD work. Don't let that scare you, just a warning. You're going to have to watch your diet carefully as well. Once you start lifting regularly, you'll have quite the appetite, I can assure you of that.

Find a good trainer, one who also knows nutrition. You're going to need the info they give you. Oh and if you're serious about this, know that this is a lifestyle change- you don't stop when you look good. ;)
