I see the cables say they're for a mobile device, but they'll fit my Macbook Pro?

For your purposes it makes no difference. They're referring to the fact that mobile devices have the 1/8" miniplug audio output. But -- so does your MBP.

McGiord suggested optical (because your MBP does have the ability to push optical audio out the headphone port) and that would be cool, but you ought to be able to get away with regular analog.

The people pushing ATV have a point if you're wanting to set up a permanent video link so you can watch stuff anytime. You didn't say you were, and I figured you weren't, but if you are then you might want to explore that kind of solution.

So what fixed the audio issue you were having using the Apple mini-port to HDMI adapter to connect your Mac Book Pro to your LG display?

Was it a setting in the OS X 10.9 audio app in system preferences, or do you have a low cost mini display port adapter that doesn't support audio over HDMI and what brand is it if you don't mind me asking?

Just a quick note that the article stated that most 2010 or newer Mac's have HDMI audio natively supported, and you may want to try an app called WavTap to allow you to transmit other sounds.

I have an LG TV. When I plug in the mini port to the hdmi adapter and then into my tv, I get picture but no sound coming from the TV. How do I send both the audio and video from a movie I have on my mac book? OS X 10.9.1 13' mid 2009

In Mac Preferences you have to choose your LG TV as HDMI output...

I just found this Apple tech bulletin, it states that 2009 Mac Book Pro's do not support audio over HDMI.

These Apple computers supply only video signals over Mini DisplayPort:

iMac (Early 2009) and (Mid 2009)
Mac Mini (Early 2009) and (Late 2009)
Mac Pro (Early 2009)
MacBook (Late 2009)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008)
MacBook Pro (late 2008), (Mid 2009), and (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008) and (Mid 2009)
