There is definatly Chicago! The creator of RoR is from there ;-)

Take a look at www.37signals.com, then look in the pro section of the apple website for the film about them...

The industry is catching on on RoR much faster than I expected. The core is still PHP and Java with a bit of .net but its coming! Even here in Montreal I have seen a few job posting asking for RoR skills! and best of all is that most of the time these are greenfield projects.

He's from Copenhagen, Denmark...he only recently moved to Chicago.

And just because the lead developer lives in Chicago doesn't mean RoR is big there. If you look on any freelance sites, RoR isn't huge. Not to say it isn't there, but it's not really huge yet.

If you really want a job, learn PHP, ASP or Java, and then RoR on the side so you are actually knowledgeable when RoR hits mainstream.

My 2¢.

... move to a real webapp framework such as Python or Ruby on rails or (!) Java
Only one of those is a framework ;) Plus people can write insecure code whether creating everything from scratch or using a framework.

Sean :)

Python: Django
Tuby: RoR
Java: Struts, Spring, ...

Wanted to say language/framework... My bad.

Btw, looking at the 37Signals job board, there are a lot of RoR jobs in Chicago, New York and London...
