Hey everyone,

Would it be possible to unlock the Verizon firmware 3.0.04 to use on carriers like AT&T? I have the iPhone 4 with 5.1.1 (9B206), and with Verizon as my carrier. I just signed up with AT&T, and I guess I qualify for a line of service without a security deposit because I received a confirmation email. Since I don't have any credit/debit card, so I went with any free phone. I don't know any idea what free phone it is, and I know nothing about it. I done it that way because I heard people unlock phone to use on other carriers, so my plan was if I qualify which I did was to use my iPhone, and deny the package for the free phone, and have AT&T activate my phone on their network? Could I do that? I did do a JB using redsn0w. If it could be done, how could I do it? I don't have any SIM slots on my phone as I was reading they were doing this using SIM with SAM.

I appreciate any help!

Thank you,

You serious? So I signed up for AT&T for nothing, and even I would need to buy a new phone?

I thought ultrasn0w could get this job done?

Thank you for your reply!

Sorry, but the iPhone 4 on Verizon is strictly CDMA. There's no way it'd ever work on at&t. You'll have to buy a compatible GSM phone to be able to use at&t's network.

you should be able to sell the Verizon iP4 and buy a AT&T one. or even work out a trade on craigslist

Thank you. Good idea. I didn't think of that. My apologize. My very first phone was a flip phone, but it's been a couple of years, and I don't like those phone. I did have the Droid Incredible, but I really like iPhones better.

Thank you very much for that suggestion!

One more question i assume you have a data plan on your AT&T account.

Oh, I currently have Verizon, and just signed up for AT&T, and yes, I have data, and honestly, I just forgot about that change. I still have unlimited. Did that change of plans and data apply just for Verizon, or AT&T as well? I know if I drop it I won't be getting unlimited back, and yes, I use tons of data.

If you really use tons of data you probably shouldn't switch to AT&T as you can't get unlimited data on them anymore, and your grandfathered Verizon plan won't do you any good on them.

How could I cancel my order with AT&T?

Thank you for the help everyone!

if you are within 30 days cancel, goto store where you bought it.

Do you really need unlimited? Look at your past history and see how much you used. I went from ATT to Sprint a yr ago thinking I needed to have my entire family on unlimited data since I was the only one on ATT with it. Out max in the past yr was 3.5 gigs for 4 smart phones.

We just moved back to ATT 2 weeks ago and I am happy to be back. We went ot the 10 gig shared as it keep sthe price the same we were paying at Sprint and have way better service and are happy.

I ordered it online at ATT.com. My data usage is below.

712521.4KB
695.82MB
0.680GB

Estimated 9/8/12.

I would also have to sell or trade my phone which I never done that before, and I never uses Craigslist before. I'm also not good at how to judge how much my phone is worth. I might say $300, but probably no one will buy it. I had it since last year, and I'm currently under 2yr contract which I will terminate.

That's not really a ton of data if that's all you're using in a month, so you probably don't need the unlimited data. But since you say you're still in a contract with Verizon it really doesn't make sense to pay the ETF so I still wouldn't switch. Since you ordered online, I'd recommend trying to call up AT&T to see if they will let you cancel still.

Hey OP, please take a deep breath and start over with your question.

Based on your first post i was not aware that you were still under contract with Verizon.

Why did you want to switch to AT&T, are you not happy with Verizon, are you just wanting to get the new iPhone. How much is left on your contract with Verizon, what will your ETF be.

You can call Verizon and they will give you the answer on the last two questions. You do need to get this figured out today and decide if you are going to cancel the AT&T account (if you still can without an ETF).

Hey. I just would like to try out AT&T. Are they any better? I much prefer rather to just unlock the phone, but that's not going to happen. My contract end date is set for 7/13/13.

Will those steps work with my phone, carrier, and firmware? It seems like it should work, right?

Can someone give me a link to instructions on how to unlock an iPhone 3G through jailbreaking the phone.

My cousin bought a 3G to use on T-Mobile, but he didn't know what he was doing and did not buy an unlocked iPhone. I tried to call AT&T, but they said they needed proof of his purchase, but he bought it off of CraigsList.

Thanks.

I have AT&T and Verizon phones. They are about the same. Verizon has better indoor reception

I was about to fire up iFile, and then delete the carrier bundles such as plist, PRL, and such, and then restart to take it off the CDMA network. Or I guess I won't do it now? I just wanted to see how AT&T is.

$250 is the going rate for Verizon iPhone 4's. I'd trade you for my unlocked GSM iPhone 4, but the Home button sticks, and the screen has minor scratches. You could get a better trade on craigslist.

You can buy a Verizon unlimited plan off someone for $100, but most plans are $100/month anyway. The best thing to do if you don't care about unlimited is to share an AT&T or Verizon plan with like 6GB of data, which will cost roughly $85/person for two people or $210 for three/$70/person compared to $100 for unlimited by yourself. If you could get a 4th, it would only be about $60/person plus you can buy the new iPhone 5 in a couple weeks for about $50. You got to make sure no one is too much of a data hound(video streaming or Facebook 24/7).

I think there's a formula for your Verizon cancellation fee, which is how many months you have left on your contract versus the unsubsidized cost of your phone minus the subsidized cost. So that could be anywhere from $25-$500. You don't have to pay it of course, but your credit score will take a hit.

Thank you for that info! I really would like a trade, but by what you are saying its not a good trade with you, right?

No, they won't work because your phone doesn't have a SIM card which is required for it to work on AT&T or any GSM network. If your only reason for wanting to switch is just that you want to try AT&T then don't do it until your contract is up.

But didn't it just take a hit off my credit because I applied for new service? I mean I passed without a security deposit? I mean that's going to ruin my credit even I cancel the order? They won't cancel it until after it ships which the guy told me to refuse the package, and then it will be sent back, and then they will cancel it. I called a little while ago. I called 800-331-0500.

Signing up for AT&T and cancelling within the 30 days isn't going to hurt your credit. The only thing that would is if while cancelling your verizon service you didn't pay the ETF for some reason.

Thank you!

Anyway, between these two carriers, would I be unhappy that I make a switch as far as coverage? Or between these two what carrier is better?
