i have always run my 2016 12" macbook (always meaning, since 2016) with the display at 'more spcae' and have never experienced lags or stutters... or experienced 'reduced performance'. and it doesn't feel different (in terms of usable space) from catalina; at least, it hasn't disrupted my workflow in any way; i've never felt that i've lost any working space.

the 'lags and stutters' sounds like something specifically related to your setup, and might be worth troubleshooting.

My setup is me having only safari, spotify and messages app opened 90% of time.
Just try to resize any window, it doesn't have to be any third party app, it literally can be safari window and if that's as smooth as scrolling in safari for you - then maybe i'm doing something wrong with my complicated setup.

not sure what's happening for you. i have spotify, safari, mail, notes, messages, stickies, calendar and pages all open... and no stuttering. this is on an entry-level 12" macbook with 8g ram... and 'more space' selected in display settings.

anyway, hope you sort it out. make sure everything's up-to-date (ie spotify). & check activity monitor, see if anything unusual shows up there.

Overall I like the look. The jury is still out on some of the icons and I wish they'd change the desktop icons for the internal disk to something more modern and "SSD" looking. But overall it's a nice refresh.

When I first used Big Sur it made me crave some Gummy Bears, after a few days of use it switched to beer!

I like the new look in general, but:
- I hate the transparent menu bar. With my wallpaper it was way too dark. I had to modify my wallpaper image and insert a light grey band at the top, which solves this problem, but now the lock screen looks ugly.
- I don't like the enormous space between the menu bar icons. Not only do they look like crap, spaced so widely apart, but they also take up much more space.
- I don't like having the control centre icon in the menu bar. I have no use for a control centre, so I'd like that icon not to exist. I can hide the icons for Spotlight and Siri, but not this one. I understand the control centre on an iPhone or iPad, but on a Mac it's absolutely useless. Why would I use that for turning the brightness or volume up or down, when I already have keys on the touchbar (or keyboard, if there's no touchbar) dedicated precisely to those tasks? Why would I need a control centre for turning wi-fi on or off, when I already have a wi-fi icon in the menu bar?
I wish I could disable the control centre, but there doesn't seem to be such an option.

Can anyone tell how to change format showing date from: "11-14 Sat" to "Sat Nov 14" or "Nov 14, Sat"?

The resolution should be your screen's resolution...

Edit: My bad. I see now. That is actually one way to increase your resolution.

I generally like the new design actually, except for the new icons which look absolutely horrible.

Well I finally took the plunge and... wow. To my total amazement I actually really like Big Sur in the flesh. Apple is impressing me more often these days. Feels like things are really coming together at the moment in Cupertino.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Really loving the overall look, but then I saw this... wtf?!

The more I look around, the more the icons look like Windows 95 clipart. Really weird :( Still, it's just the icons. The rest seems ok so far.
