It's also how Windows and (likely most if not all distributions of) Linux does it, so not sure why OP thought the Mac was limited to working like an iPad and not like other windows-on-the-desktop operating systems. Perhaps Apple needs to improve their advertising & outreach.Btw, this isn't M1 specific ... this is the way it's been done probably since OS X was originally released in March 2001, possibly even earlier.
I don’t think you’re running the latest version of Big Sur. That is no longer possible.iv got the YouTube app on my M1 just download an app called "Imazing" and export the app off of your iPhone or iPad I attached a YouTube link that I used to do it also provided a screen shot of the app on my M1
It is still possible on 11.2.3. I have heard talk that it hasn't been possible on 11.3 beta.I don’t think you’re running the latest version of Big Sur. That is no longer possible.

Try just closing the lid for it to go to sleep instead of shutting down the laptop. Then you'll be able to log in with your fingerprint I think. If you insist on keeping the lid open, you can either change the default time that it has to sit before it goes to sleep (in system preferences -> battery -> and in the battery / power adapter tabs on the left you can choose how long before the display turns off), or select sleep from the apple menu instead of shut down.dang I live alone and I rather leave my laptop open. I hate losing in since I can't recall my password. plus it don't even show what I'm typing. ill get used to it I hope
