dang I live alone and I rather leave my laptop open. I hate losing in since I can't recall my password. plus it don't even show what I'm typing. ill get used to it I hope

You probably don't need to restart your computer with any frequency. Maybe once a month or if you're experiencing system choppiness.

Don't shut down the Mac, just put it to sleep :) That way, you can always use the fingerprint reader, the system will stay more alert and apps will open quicker.

Don't worry about energy usage: in several topics on several websites you can read about how the system will most likely use more energy every time you shut down and reboot the system, compared to just closing the lid and waking it from sleep.

Apple does this on purpose. You must type in your password from a cold boot to activate the fingerprint reader, unlock with Apple Watch or use facial recognition (iPhone/iPad). There is no work-around.
But no need to shutdown. Just put it to sleep.

no joke i like to have a web browser and the youttube app in a splt screen set up so i can watch youtube and surf the internet at the same time
You can do that with Safari (or any other browsers) just create new Safari window specifically for YouTube and put it full screen side by side with your other Safari window.

If you disable file vault, isn't the password asked at a later stage, which may enable fingerprint reading?

No. The password is cleared upon macOS shutdown & boot, so you can't use your fingerprint to enter your password until you type it in at boot for the first time.

AFAIK, that's not due to shutdown since TouchID doesn't work if you just log out, according to Apple. That's kinda ridiculous IMO, and that's something Windows does better, according to a previous poster.

Funny thread aside

I do want the YouTube, Netflix, Disney and Prime apps on macOS

I want them contained and separate from my web browser

The apps often have better features than the website version

And I can download the movies offline. I’d like to switch off the Wi-fi on my computer so I can focus on the movie. And turn off the phone too 😝
