I find myself with the button always on the right side.

Same here . . . maybe because I'm right handed

Anyway, I brace mine on my lap . . . holding it at a viewable angle, landscape mode most of the time.
Sometimes I use a bookstand on a table or desk. It rests there, when I'm not using it so it's very handy to just use it at the same locale.

usually landscape with the button on the right but then I end up covering the speaker and accidentally pushing the home button so I flip it

I have the apple case which holds it landscape button on the left for typing, but if I'm in bed, I keep hitting the volume buttons by mistake so I switched to landscape button on the right with screen rotation locked. The volume buttons are on the top left where I won't hit em as easily.

There are a handful of apps that force a particular orientatioin or handle screen rotation poorly so for those i hood it however it takes to have the app right side up. One such app is WTD (what's the difference) where a series of pictures are presented with minor differences and you have to find them in a few seconds.

I have it in the Apple iPad case. I honestly can't imagine using it any other way. Most of the time it is rested on my knees; other times I hold it up b the case behind the iPad and on top of where the case folds back.

I've only seen my ipad "naked" once, when I took it out of the box. It's been in it's Apple case since then. I could not imagine using it otherwise. Besides the scratches, etc that would make a grown man cry, it's so slippery and heavy. But with the case flipped open to make a stand it's very easily put on your lap and leans up so you can see it, without having to hold the weight, something you can't do without the case.

Naked is good.

I hold it whichever way I happen to be holding it at the time. I've notice that I have lost track of where the home button is most of the time and end up looking for it on the opposite Side from where it actually is half the time.

Lying back on my sofa, on my knee. Pretty much like this:

and after that gets tiring, like this:

and then back to the first one.

So you turn from a guy into a little girl and then back? Damn that's some trick!

I've been using mine all different ways. Usually it is landscape, but that could be with the button on the right or left. It gets turned all ways. I usually don't notice until I have to use the button.

Usually landscape with button on the right side. I put my left hand behind the lower left corner, resting the thing on my pinky finger with the thumb just over the left side frame and three middle fingers spread on the back. I thought it would feel heavy after awhile and was surprised to discover it works fine. I haven't even bothered to buy a rack for it yet, although I want one later on for using with a wireless kb.
