I have this phone and it is great. Not sure why someone would return it because of the screen, it seems good to me.

The only thing I'd really want to change about it is for there to be a hardware home button and a hardware back button. The on screen buttons waste a lot of space and they aren't really that reliable. Plus with the on screen button I think it is confusing when you are one the home screen and there is a home button right below the apps button.

I'd also fix the UI in places, the contacts and dialler apps look awful and are inconsistent with everything else.

I love the on screen buttons so much that I've actually disabled the menu and back capacitive buttons on my S3 and I'm using the on screen buttons.

The screen is AMOLED which has its advantages and disadvantages. It usually has better colors. The big disadvantage is that it has a Pentile pixel matrix. Meaning you can see pixels and jagged edges sometimes and the brightness isn't that great.

LCD screens used on the iPhones and HTC One phones are typically much brighter and much sharper.

If it works for you then that is awesome but most "experts" (reviewers and screen experts) agree LCD is superior. My own eyes say so too. ;-)

Yeah, you should be warned, the camera is wholly unsatisfying.

Maybe wait for the LG Nexus 4.

I've always thought it was a shame Samsung kept the button design with the S3. They could have really pushed for on screen buttons and used that against the iPhone.

On screen buttons rock. No need to press hard or worry about button failures. They change and adapt accordingly. It's groovy. Plus, they just look slick.

It's one of the reasons I want to move to the LG Nexus.

What, on-screen buttons?

Yes. I briefly owned a Galaxy Nexus earlier this year and so when I got the GS3 I missed them a lot. Now I'm running a custom ROM that lets me disable the hardware buttons (except the home button) and have a navigation bar (on screen buttons) just like on the Galaxy Nexus.

Ah, okay. :p

I compared it to my Mom's Boyfriend's S3 [also on VZW], and I thought the Nexus felt a little lighter sometimes, the S3 others. I tried out Android Beam though! That was so cool! I know you can get stock Android with a custom ROM, but you can't get stock Android on the SGSIII direct from VZW/or Samsung, can you? Haven't compared battery life, as the GNex just got it's first full charge. It's been floating around 25%-60% because it's been connected to my gaming PC, being rooted, unlocked, having APKs side-loaded, etc. I'll compare it later.

I'm also gonna run a Quadrant Standard test on it, and on the SGS3. Let's see which is better graphics wise...

But, as much as I'm really really really really REALLY wanting to cancel my iPhone 5 order, and jump off the iOS bandwagon and onto the Google/Android one, there's stuff holding me back.

For instance, I'd have to re-buy all my apps again. And even with a huge selection of apps on Android, I know the Play Store doesn't have some of the apps I use on iOS. Plus, I've been stuck with an iPhone 4 since 2011. I haven't gotten to experience some of these new features and improved hardware that has come to newer generations of devices and versions of iOS.

I do have one card on the table, though. I'm on a SharePlan with my grandparents. My Mom is moving her line, my line, and my brother's line over to her own account. For some reason, when you do that, you only have to sign a 1-year contract. Not 2 years. So, I can use my iPhone 5 for a year, then decide if I wanna hop onto Android.

Yeah I had quite a bit of money invested in the App store fortunately my fiancee still has an iPhone and we share app store accounts so nothing really is truly gone (except some games haha). Plus I wouldn't be surprised if I go back to iPhone when my upgrade is due in June, we'll see how much I like my unlimited data - I got my S3 and now M off contract...

To be honest if you only have to sign a one year contract you're in a great situation. The iPhone 5 will definitely sell for $400+ this time next year so you'll come out on top plus the latest and greatest Android OR iPhone next year. So either use this year to have fun with Android or wait til next year =)

I got this phone recently and I'm very happy with it. Ideally I would have gone with the GS3, but decided I wanted to put some money towards a travel and I got a good deal on a Nexus that saved me a good chunk of money. Like others said camera could be a bit better, but overall it's good value for money. The only thing that bothers me with it is that it doesn't have expandable storage, so it can't hold all my music and photos. I'm leaning towards an iPod Touch, though.

After some thinking, I'm waiting until next year. We'll have faster hardware, [hopefully] Key Lime Pie, and plus I haven't been able to experience any of the new features in iOS, or any new hardware. I'm using dated hardware from 2010. Next year is going to be experimental. Plus, I don't buy the "S" models of the iPhone anyways. ;)

What if the next iPhone is the iPhone 5S?

Then I don't buy it. I bought in at iPhone 4. I skipped the 4S because it's the same phone with a bit faster internals. I skip the "mini-upgades."

Buying the "S" model makes no sense to me. It's exactly the same iPhone, with a little bit faster CPU, and a little bit better camera. Not worth the $649. Or $199 in my case, since I'm only on a one-year contract.

EDIT: My Mom gave me back the GNex. She wants me to use it until my iPhone 5 is delivered around Thanksgiving (late November), and she'll go back to her dumbphone. That was awfully nice of her...

But, now I have a full month with Android and I. :)

I prefer the S models. Hardware bugs get worked out. Like the antenna's on the 4. The 4S got a better camera then the 4, and I'm sure the 5S will get rid of the haze that the 5 exhibits using the camera.

Also the S models get the similar software to the next # version. My 4S has all the software your 5 has. However your 4 didn't have all the software my 4S got when it was released (Siri).
I can understand wanting the first design change model because its new and looks different but I prefer the mature version that software is better future proofed. Btw I think the 5 is a better phone then my 4S no doubt but I just can't justify upgrading and that's me telling my employer "I want to get the new iPhone 5"....

Pure Android is awesome! And Jelly Bean with Google Now is just great. Responsive, fluid, clean, elegant. But the problem with Nexus devices has always been the awful hardware. Crap camera, crap screens, crap looks and build. However this is going to change with Nexus 4.

I have a 4S now and am thinking of selling it to get a new Nexus retail or a cheap GN when the new Nexus is out. I miss android and its customization with. ROMs and widgets. Plus ICS and JB seem like huge steps forward coming from Gingerbread when I last used android.

I had the iphone 4S for 6 months and an iPhone 4 before that. I loved my iPhone and thought it was the best looking phone ever, but had to constantly keep it in a case out of fear I would drop it and smash the glass. This just ruined half of the experience for me. And then, when seeing the iOS 6 demo earlier this year and finally trying it, for me it didn't feel like a big enough step forward. It should have been called iOS 5S!

I had tried android previously with the S2, but touchwiz wasn't great imo, and the quality of the screen wasn't good enough when compared to the iphones.
I did a lot of research and bought a galaxy nexus last month and I have to say I am in love with it. The quality of the screen is great, not as good as the iphones but still more than sufficient. The camera isn't the best, but it's not the worst either. With Jelly Bean, this phone is as fast as my iPhone 4S, and I actually prefer this phone. It does everything my iphone could do.
