paid for it on my MasterCard. Glad I did because three weeks ago my 2009 imac Logic Board decided to take a dump on me. I'm currently 6 months outta my warranty with no apple care. Repair cost would be $950. I called up MasterCard and I qualified for the extended warranty coverage and received a check for the price of the repairs. I now plan to use that money to buy a new iMac when they come out. Next time Ill be purchasing again with CC and will buy the apple care (lesson learned).

CASH!

It's clean, leaves no paper trail.

Walk in, plunk down $1,000's in cash and watch the Apple Store Clerk run to get a manager or two to witness counting THAT MUCH CASH!

:D

.

I payed mine via Direct Deposit, it was a staff purchase so i had to fill out forms from apple saying i will not sell the unit for 1 year after purchase. Pfft as if i would.

I have to buy our hardware online because i always need to configure them so my Apple products are purchased with my discover card because i get 5% back when purchased online (If only i could do that with my photography and music gears).
and yes like many of the replies the bill gets paid in full except that i don't wait for the statement notification to hit my inbox, i scheduled a payment as soon as possible

Best Buy...18 months same as cash. Use their $$ pay if off before it's due, of course.

Lol $1000 or $2000 in cash isn't THAT MUCH CASH!

Im in the car biz and we regularly deal with a lot more and I never even blink at $1000.

Not using a cc to make an expensive electronic purchase is a big time mistake. Even with AppleCare, the extra layer of protection a cc affords you for free is something should be a reason to use one.

When my iPhone 3G died outside warranty, I called my cc, filled out a few forms ad they refunded me the cost of repairs. Like all electronics, costs of repair were greater then the cost of the phone so they just refunded the original price of the phone. Get your cash to do that.

I purchase everything on my debit card and get cash back rewards at the end of the month. I personally think cash is a big hassle and you're out of luck if its lost or stolen.

I pay in cash (really a check). I don't use credit cards for anything, ever. There is no use for credit cards no matter how many people say there is. Debit cards replace credit cards. Credit cards are the devil and should be banned.

Like has been said. Try to get your checkbook to replace your imac hassle-free in yr 2 of ownership.

Great minds think alike. I buy it on one day and pay it the next all online.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Car purchase to computer purchase.

I can tell you this, when you walk into the Apple Store and purchase 1 Mac Pro and 3 Macbook Pro's in a single transaction with CASH, some eyebrows get raised.
They call over at least 1 manager, and maybe two to witness the counting.

I'm guess you've never done it.

By the way I was an F&I Manager for a few years so I sorta know about the 'car biz', nothing special there! Sales is sales!

back when we were getting my MBP in honk kong 2 months ago, we paid in Hong Kong Dollar Cash... and we got the MBP 13+apple care
though im pretty sure all of em will take credit cards

Little known tip: if you're shopping at apple.com and you have a Discover card, you can get 5% cashback by using the Shop Discover link on the Discover website. Doesn't work for other retailers like PowerMax, and it doesn't work for Apple retail stores. But still, a very nice benefit.

Cash. No trace. Wear sun glasses and hat to the store so that the camera can not get a clear picture. Use open y-fi when possible, with fake name. Switch hard drives frequently and vary loaded programs. Reload OS frequently. Use three different computers with different names. Switch IPs and Email address often. Change account names for sites signed up. Never log in to a site if not required, and avoid most sites that require sign in.

Citi mtvU card (no longer available, unfortunately, I am grandfathered) w/ 5x ThankYou Network points at Amazon. (5x points at bookstores, Amazon lists itself as a bookstore).

$1999 X 5 = $200 in gift cards which go straight to eBay and net ~$175 after fees.

No coffee yet so this one went straight over my head. I did not mean to sound pompous in my post but I truly believe deficit spending is what's killing people. It's funny how everyone on message forums immediately pays their credit cards every month yet our nations (USA) savings rate is 2% and credit card debt is at an all time high. I guess people on these boards carry no debt?

I will get off my soap box, but I speak from experience. I was over 180k in debt not including my mortgage and paid it all off except for my house. I know the dangers of credit cards. There is no use for them.

Also, the argument about coverage or protection is BS and a credit card marketing scheme. Download your monthly statements as well as check images and save them to external hard drive. Takes less than 45 seconds for me via Bank of America (maybe it will take 2 seconds with Thunderbolt) :)

I liked the college kid who posted earlier about not signing up for a card. SMART MAN!

Patiently waiting for an upgrade.......(30"?)

Thank you for this post.

Also wouldn't the money you pay in credit card fees eventually add up to the money you will need to for repairs outside of warranty?Indeed will they not surpass it?
