• Messages: 10, I love it, I just wish Android had iMessage and FaceTime so I could finally ditch that Facebook-owned crap called WhatsApp.
• Calendar: 9. I don't have any issues with it, could use some polish here and there though.
• Photos: 8. Again, no issues. I just wish for a third option where iCloud Photo Library would not download the photos until explicitly requested, a clear cache button and an export to iCloud Drive option.
• Camera: 10. Does what it is meant to, perfectly. Maybe remove the square option, the filters and a manual focus system.
• Weather: 10. Beautiful app.
• Clock: 10. It just works.
• Maps: 8. Still missing quite a lot of POI but usability is on point.
• Videos: 10. Good app.
• Wallet: N/A Apple Pay is not available in my country.
• Notes: 9. Maybe they can ditch the yellow for a friendlier colour, and the faux paper.
• Reminders: 5. I used to love the iOS 6 Reminders app but the post iOS 7 I didn't like it (the icon, oh, God, the icon). The cards interface is cool, but the app is a bit confusing.
• Stocks: 10 on functionality as it works as it should, but c'mon, who uses it?
• iTunes Store: 9. I don't like the black UI on the movies section. All white or all black, Apple, c'mon.
• App Store: 10. Good.
• iBooks: 10. Love it.
• News: 7. Could use a lot of refinements such as filters, more content, add a website to the feed. And make it available in Mexico!
• Health: N/A never used it
• Settings: 10. Easy and intuitive.
• Phone: 10. It just works.
• Safari: 10. Best browser.
• Mail: 10. No problems, daily driver.
• Music: 8. As I don't use Apple Music, I don't have clutter problems or weird songs issues. Not very intuitive UI when it comes to non-scrolling recents, the menu for selecting albums, songs, etc is a really ugly implementation. Not sure how I feel about Connect as almost no artists I "follow" use it. Maybe ditch that.
• Activity: N/A. No Apple Watch yet.

• Facetime: 10. Love it. Maybe multi conference someday. Agree that it shouldn't be its own app, instead a tab on the phone app (replacing voicemail)
• Calculator: 9. It should do conversions!
• Game Center: N/A I've never opened the app since iOS 4.
• Compass: 6. I really think this is the most useless app. It should be replaced completely by a 'Level' app and move the compass to the Maps app.
• Tips: N/A. Never opened that bloatware crap
• Voice Memos: 9. Love the top part, the white part on the other hand... ugh. And the icon should be black with white waves. It just works though.
• Contacts: 6. Should not exist on the iPhone as the Phone app does the same.
• Find my Friends: N/A never used that bloatware crap either.
• Find my iPhone: 10. Best app ever, and curse the guy who stole my 4s.
• iCloud Drive: 8. Love it, but could use some 3D Touch love such as peek and pop. Also, needs way more integration with stock and third-party apps and move documents. (And 5GB sucks but that's Apple being cheap)

How is find my friends bloatware crap, it works as intended as far as i am aware.

Its a bit like saying the find my phone app is bloatware crap as i personally never use it.

◦ iCloud Drive: 3 - Apple really needs help here. GDrive and Dropbox work so much better. Then there is the incessant “upgrade” nags when I tried basic use.


Overall Apple apps are inconsistent (especially control look / feel), lag behind competing apps, and competing OS's. When I look at my "default" apps on my iPhone, few are actual Apple apps.
Apple should look at allowing us to default apps.

They are pretty much all crappy with a few exceptions such as Messages. I look to other solutions that do a 100x better job and still completely free. I'v learned to avoid Apple made apps on iPhone, iPad, and Mac when possible.

Overall the Apple apps launch fast, work simply and well IMO

• Calendar: 8/10 - it's good, very good. Launches quickly. Not as feature-packed as Fantastical, which is sometimes good actually

• Photos: 8/10 - nice editing features. Kinda confusing at times with the various folders and stuff

• Camera: 9/10 - pretty awesome. Launches quickly. Simple.

• Clock: 5/10 - the world clock needs to be digital. The alarm setting could have better ui

It's bloatware because it was previously an optional (and removable) app, now it's fully baked into the OS.

iCloud Drive 2 - Can't scroll through photos, can't stream video, and no way to upload stuff from the drive app.

Messages 10 - Simple and looks good. Also features some pretty cool and handy things like sharing locations and it puts all photos in one place.

Activity 8 - Love it but needs more awards.

News 6 - Great but slow

Weather 8 - Wish it had radar but it's good.

• Messages: 7/10 - It used to be great, but as usual, they tried to complicate it and now it's frustrating and buggy. The stupid microphone thing used to send soundbytes, always gets hit by accident. Then there's the bug where it (the accidental audio recording) sometimes doesn't go away so you have to force close the app and restart. Then there's the other bug where it gets stuck in landscape mode and you can't get it back to portrait.

• Calendar: 6/10 - Hard to read, too much white and not enough definition in the UI items. Missing many useful features.

• Photos: 5/10 - Horrible. Impossible to organise your photos. Impossible to see any photo information. Doesn't sync properly across all devices.

• Camera: 8/10 - No complaints. Could use some more features.

• Weather: 6/10 - Often ~5 degrees off most other forecasts. Needs radar.

• Clock: 9/10 - Works great. No complaints.

• Maps: 8/10 - People hate this app. I think it's pretty good these days. No complaints.

• Videos: 9/10 - No complaints.

• Wallet: 1/10 - Has been useless in my region since it's inception.

• Notes: 7/10 - Getting better over time. Needs a UI overhaul.

• Reminders: 7/10 - Not bad, but a bit tedious/frustrating since the iOS7 UI refresh. Little things irritate me.

• iCloud Drive: 2/10 - Horrible UI. Never works the way it's supposed to. E.G. You copy a file to it on your Mac, then wait 4-72 hours for it to sync to your device, if it ever shows up at all. It's still quicker and more reliable to email a file to yourself. Crazy that this is the case in 2016.

• Podcasts: N/A - Don't use it.

• Apple Pay - 1/10. 2 years later and still not available in my country, despite NFC terminals/NFC cards being standard here for about 6-7 years.

• Messages: 10 - Do I have any other choice? It already works very well
• Calendar: 10 - Multiple calendars, intuitive layout, syncing between devices, repeated schedules, detailed info such as locations, notes, etc. Easily the best iOS stock app.
• Photos: 9 - Good photo album. Simple and logical.
• Camera: 10 - I like variety of options (slow-mo, panorama, etc) and filters. No complaints.
• Weather: 6 - It does what it does, but apps from App Store offer a lot more
• Clock: 10 - Multiple functionalities simply built into one app. Excellent app that I depend on to wake up in the morning
• Maps: 8 - 3D map is a huge eye candy, and is very fun to play with. Functionality-wise, I guess it is on par with Google Maps. However, Google Maps does seem to do a much better job with showing which direction you are facing in terms of accuracy and speed. This is crucial when I am traveling and looking for direction. And Google Maps seems to offer transit direction much better (for now...).
• Notes: 9 - No complaints. What started as a simple app has become a powerful app in its own right.
• Reminders: 9 - I like location-based reminder, but it doesn't seem to work all the time. Otherwise, I think this could have been integrated into Calendar..
• iTunes Store: 10 - Where else would I buy music?
• App Store: 10 - Where else would I buy apps?
• iBooks: 7 - Other than the fact that it correctly remembers bookmarks, it lacks some features 3rd party apps are offering (text-to-speech, word spacing, more background colors, etc)
• Settings: 9 - While Settings have become crowded over the years, Apple has done an excellent job with organizing all the configurations. I especially love the fact that settings for each app are grouped.
• Phone: 10 - Sometimes I use it. It's a good phone experience.
• Safari: 9 - Smooth and snappy browsing experience. The only thing I would want is word search feature. It does use battery quite a bit, but it's not bad compared to Chrome.
• Mail: 8 - It's a good app, but not as powerful and versatile as Outlook. However, I love the smooth animation and large font compared to Outlook.
• Music: 7 - Been discussed many times on this forum. I don't use Apple Music, so my experience can be quite different from others. At least it does what it's supposed to do - storing and playing music. That's all I want from this app.
• Calculator: 9 - Surprisingly powerful
• Voice Memos: 10 - Excellent app.
• Contacts: 10 - Thanks to this, I have never used an actual physical address book.
