Forgot about Byword in my answer. If I'm writing for someone else's publication, I always use that.

Is there anyone here who's used a mini and now moved to the 10.5? What I mean is, using on the go, to the office etc?

This weekend I used my 10.5 Pro a ton with PDF Pen and Scanner Pro to submit insurance claims. Took me about 6 hours, but most of that was finding receipts and organizing them. Once I was ready to go, used the iPad to scan receipts, fill out claim forms, email everything off, and save everything to iCloud drive. Got to do it all from my living room instead of being chained to the scanner in the office.

My wife needs a new car, so I'll be using it soon with Numbers to compare different cars and do cost break-downs and such.

I've also started taking notes with it at work with Notes Plus.

I had the non-Retina Mini before the 10.5 Pro. That was purely a consumption device for me, though I did do some household budgeting with it as well. The screen was too small even for note taking, since all you could really see was what you were currently writing. Anything you had already written, that you might want to refer back to for context, was always off screen.

iPad Mini 4 (LTE) - strictly consumptive.
News, movies, reading, email, messaging, and other similar activities.

Exact same useage for me as well. In addition, I catch up on TV shows on my iPad when I don't have access to a TV.

I have 2 iPads and 3 main uses.

Most time consuming use is work.
I use the iPP12 for emailing, writing in word/Ulysses, file management in PDF expert, annotating and editing PDF's in PDF expert. Some notes in GoodNotes or Nebo.
Also I have a database in DEVONthink if I need to find stuff.
The iPP10 is used on the side as a reference guide in mail/pdf expert/safari. I also keep my to-do-list in Nebo o the 10.5

Next big thing is my study, law, takes some serious time as well.
I use the iPP12 for reading scanned PDF's and big format study books (about letter/A4 sized ones) and magazines, I also use the iPP12 for writing my essay's, sometimes in splitview, often with the 10.5 on the side for reference, search and those things.
I use the iPP12 for annotating hand-outs in college, the iPP10 is then used for referencing my the law texts.
Then I also use the iPP10 for reading pocket format study books.

Last use is for off duty time. I don't get many of that since I'm doing my law study part-time, but at the same pace as full time students (so bachelor in 3 years, Master in the 4th). However, if I do have time off, I like to browse this forum, read my newspapers (now have a subscription to the digital copy of the paper version of three Dutch, access to the website of the Guardian and the Financial times. It's both good for work, good for my study and I find them interesting as well.)

When I'm away, not for work or study, I just carry the 10.5 with me. I'm hardly ever without an iPad. If I need to wait, I can work/study/read.
I also have about 25Gb of clips and movies for my young kids on both of the iPP's so I can keep them quiet and happy if they are tired and we need to wait somewhere. Doesn't happen often, but it's really convenient if it does happen.

I stopped taking the IPP's to bed (since a week or so) as my bed is for sleeping and not for working/studying/amusement.

Some notes:
- iPP10 writes a tiny bit better then the ipp9 or iPP12 screen, bit more/differen friction;
- iPP12 is better for writing complete stories in Nebo (wonderful app and free!);
- my penmanship has improved much since I started writing on the iPP's again;
- glass protectors are really bad if you like to write on the iPP's it's way too smooth and slick;
- there is no silicon back cover from Apple for the 10.5 I loathe this decision;
- the silicon back covers are giving a lot of friction when you want to put both iPP's in the laptop compartment of a Goruck GR1;
- having two iPP's is pure luxury, but also improves productivity;
- the copy on 1 and paste on the 2nd iPP is magic and works like a dream, both on WiFi and Cellular;
- iPP's help me to keep focused on the job at hand and to aid this I have all notifications off on the iPP's, my iphone is my notification Centre;
- Apple Smart Keyboards are really good, certainly good enough for on the go work;
- I've bought the biggest versions available with cellular because I hope to use them for work & study for about 3 years years to come. (My iPP12 is already 1,5 years old and I expect it to last at least 4 years. My MacBook Pro's did last just as long!!)

The kind of activities I do on my mini 2 since I bought it on launch day
- Email
- web browsing/social media
- youtube
- Note taking (was using Evernote, then OneNote)
- ebook/PDF reading
- gaming
- word processing (Pages, MS word and Google Docs)
- making Spreadsheet (MS Excel and Google Sheet) for projects
- making presentations (MS powerpoint and Google Slides) for projects
- document scanner
- light photo editing

And this is on a device that I can easily carry with me wherever I go (on-the-go, in bed, etc). But I guess it is still a "toy" because it doesn't support a mouse. :shrug:

Too bad Apple doesn't seem to be bothered updating the mini lineup.

My next purchase will be the 10.5 iPP to replace my sold 11" Macbook Air.

You will love the 10.5" Pro. Coming from a mini it will be a whole new world for you.

Reading: iBooks. I really hate the Kindle app.

I'd be really interested to see a photo or screenshot of iBooks on the 10.5. I too strongly prefer iBooks to the kindle app. I've been using a 12.9 and iPad mini combination since last winter, but since the 10.5 came out I've been wondering more and more whether consolidating into just one iPad would be easier for my needs. The one thing that's been giving me pause was whether I'd enjoy reading on a device that big. Do you read in portrait or landscape mode?

[doublepost=1498873356][/doublepost]Ignore my post above, it was meant to be cancelled.

I don't have a 10.5 (yet!) but I much prefer reading on the 12.9 to the 9.7. I don't wear reading glasses, my vision is perfect for that distance, but I prefer reading and also movies, everything really, on the 12.9 screen.

LIke some others here, I have used 2 iPads for a long time now for work, makes multi-tasking much easier and the size differences suit different locations and tasks, also, because I use them so much having 2 provides a backup if one goes down.
