Wow, I was just looking for this thread. I'm currently suffering from Internet speed degradation, thanks to Comcast, so my usual 25MB down is not working now, but here's what I'm seeing:

MBP: 7.4MB
3G iPad: 1.6MB
Wi-Fi iPad: 1.7MB

Why are my iPads so much slower than my MBP?

I have the same issue. iPhone 3G reports at least 5 normally but iPad ~2. Odd.

This is what I get, using TC, comcast in Memphis. Should I be concerned?

Interesting, this prompted me to test my home wifi. My MacBookPro & iPad both top out at 20Mbit download (which isn't anything to complain about!), but my MacPro which is gigabit wired to our router gets our cables full 55Mbit (which is faster than we're supposed to get from our Virgin 50Mb service). My routers WIFI is supposed to be rated to 300Mbit... hmm :s

Not having a laptop, and my iPad being my only wireless device I can't asnwer this myself, hence this question.

How does the WiFi speed (let's use Speedtest.net as it's a good test) of the iPad compare against a Laptop in the same room/location?

Is the iPad slower at data transfer than a laptop doing the same test, or is this just a wifi limitation of any device?

I have verizon fios 25/25 and have clocked max of about 19-20

I also have verizon fios 25/25 and I get 25/25 on tests on my desktop computer but I get 8 Mbps down at the most with my iPad. This is on

http://i.dslr.net/iphone_speedtest.html

I have the actiontec router next to latest model with all updates. The only changes I have made are wap2 and g network only. Also, I have the latest iPad update and no other wireless devices. Are there any other speed test sites to try or different router settings? Thanks!

EDIT

I found and installed the speedtest.net app. It consistently shows 16/16 Mbps, which is probably reasonable with a g network router. It's strange that the other site shows such different results.

Lol. You all make me sick :p

Here in Ireland it's like the time before broadband. If you have 2mb you're doing well :p :(
