Other How is it that the iPhone Xs gets almost the same battery life as the Xs Max?

I’ve been watching a few battery tests on YouTube and surprisingly the Xs Max’s battery life is not that much more than the Xs. It’s like a 15-30 minute difference in battery life. I thought that the increased size in battery would widen that margin. Maybe the bigger screen offsets the difference in battery capacity.

Screen.
 
A bigger screen will require more power... screen to battery ratio. That could be why you’re seeing similar results.
 
So other than the bigger screen there really is no benefit to getting the Xs Max. I thought one of the selling points was the bigger battery, but that’s not even case since the battery life is almost the same.

Aren't there other differences aside from the screen?
 
I don’t know about the XS but I have the XS Max and compared to the X I’m getting almost double the battery life.
I usually end the day around 60% where with my X i would be at 30% or so.

I think too much attention goes to videos and articles claiming to test battery life and provide results. Real world use is likely the way to go (but I understand wanting answers prior to purchase). I just believe that if you search enough, you can find as many ‘good’ results as poor ones.

In this article, Consumer Reports states the XSM gets 1.5 more hours than the XS.

I can only attest to the fact that my XSM appears to get better battery life for me than my 8 Plus did.

Battery life on the XR was a selling point. I don’t see the battery on the Max being a selling point whatsoever. I knew it wouldn’t be great. 6+ was the same way. Was good but not mind blowing.
 
Battery Life is not as good as Tim Cook said it would be. Of course how you use your iPhone makes a difference but still we should see some improvement

That’s not double, but still a nice upgrade.

Battery usage hasn't changed for me one way or another with that feature being on or off.

I didn’t really care about the battery upgrade. I just wanted the bigger screen.
 
XS MAX
im getting no where near what i was getting on my X

left work 8pm last night at 100
today at work 11am 32%

mind you i slept for 7.5 hours....lol
 
The internet isnt the end all be all of results. The advertised battery life was only an hour difference (XS 1/2 hour longer than the X and Max 1.5 hours longer.) So any margin of error in testing could make it look closer.

I’ve noticed the same thing. I don’t have one but my coworker does. I’m on my phone a lot during the day. iPhone X 256 GB Qualcomm. Granted, most of my usage is medium - light... no gaming but do use video services. Unplugged at or around 7 AM. It is now almost noon, still at 100%.

7 AM: 1 min screen on
8 AM: 14 min screen on
9 AM: 12 min screen on
10 AM: 16 min screen on
11 AM: 22 min scorn on, 11 min screen off

Total: 1 hour 16 min

Not bad at all for still being at 100%. All light usage... Facebook, safari, email, messaging via iMessage and Messenger, Tapatalk, a few minutes of YouTube, and shopping/billing apps. Brightness seems to remain around 25%.

Edit: not a fan of the new battery charge usage system. -_-

It lasts the full day, with some leftover. I charge it every single night while I’m asleep. Brightness about 60%, True Tone on, all notifications vibrate only, wifi connected* whenever possible, bluetooth always on, various health apps always tracking, etc.

*XSM...wifi sucks badly (2.4ghz)

I actually thought about that, but when I did a DFU restore then Update to iOS 12 via iTunes, it fixed my battery problems even if screen time on.
