El Capitan on a MacBook Pro 2010 (with SSD). The only thing that I noticed in office applications are opening times which are too darn slow. Despite that, they're working fine

Disclaimer: I use Word and Excel regularly, Powerpoint rarely and never opened Outlook and OneNote

Edit: I haven't tried office 2011, this is office 2015 I'm talking about. Sorry about that

Office 2011 has very poor OneDrive and OneDrive for business integration, which is a no no for me. However I can expect the performance will be great under El Capitan as long as it is compatible.

You should see similar perforance in El Capitan.

Office 2011 Word and Excel have features that have been stripped in Office 2016 versions. If you use advanced features, I highly suggest you trial Office 2016 before purchasing.

Make sure you are running the latest version.

I can confirm that Excel & Word 2011 are absolutely fine. Outlook 2011 however hangs a few seconds after it starts to sync with the exchange server.

Outlook 2011 hangs immediately with spinning beachball of death, requiring a force quit. And because my organization hasn't updated their Exchange server, I can't use 2016. So my only option is the terrible Outlook webmail. I really hope whoever is at fault here—MS or Apple or both—get this ironed out before the final release tomorrow.

Word/Excel work fine. Outlook 2011 hangs after adding an Exchange account. Late 2011 15" MBP on 10.11 GM Candidate.

I've been using Office 2016 on El Capitan 10.11.1 and it's been great since the GM. I'm aware the OP asked for Office 2011 but I figure my comment could be relevant to someone else browsing :)

I have MS Office 2011 Home & Business Edition and it is working fine for me in PB 10.11.1.

My only issue is with Microsoft's arcane activation system. I have owned the product since it's inception and am I allowed a license for 2 machines. I have two machines, a cMP and an MBA. However, I have two system drives drives with my MBA (the internal drive is not the original) and five system drives in my cMP. Microsoft says I have activated my license 11 times over the years, which is probably true. This is due to new drives, new machines, clean installs and etc. Every time I want to reactivate, I need to through a whole song and dance over the telephone, which is extremely time consuming.

On my last call, the representative I spoke to told me that they wouldn't allow another activation. I do not have this issue with any other software that I use. My Adobe products are fine and copy over or install on all my discs and machines as does all my other software. Microsoft is a real PITA regarding this issue:mad:

Since MS Office 2016 only allows installation on one machine I am reluctant to upgrade. You'd think it would be OK, since I can only use one machine at a time, but I don't know if their activation scheme has changed and if my activation problems will continue.

I've had to resort to web based calendar and mail after installing El Capitan. I get beachball and freeze every time I launch. Really, none of this came up in the public betas? Luckily the new Pin Tab feature lets me get to the web based version of calendar and mail.

After the update Office 2011 works fine here (Word / Excel / Outlook)

Had a heck of a time installing the update, but I usually do. I can't get "synch services" to quit via Activity app. I had to boot in Safe Mode to get the install to go.

MS word 2011 new glitch/problem: when you open the app, the document will appear on top left corner of the screen. When you open the second document (command and N) it will pop out a new screen but will appear on top left. The problem is you can't save where you adjusted the windows.

Office 2011 seems mostly OK for me with El Capitan (I don't use Outlook so haven't been affected by those problems), but Word seems sluggish on some documents, with spinning beach ball or 'application unresponsive" messages. I haven't worked out yet what the problem is, it is not as simple as document size or the number of embedded images. I've been using it for the past few weeks, with documents up to 100 pages or so. El Capitan has done nothing to improve the experience of opening large Word documents in Office 2011...

Reliability of Office 2011 online with Onedrive is variable for me - I use this quite a lot for large (>100 pages, lots of pictures) collaborative documents - it worked beautifully for a while last year, I lost data in Spring 2015 (and discovered a phenomenon whereby if my Windows-based collaborators edited in the browser instead of locally in Word this would reproducibly crash my Mac-based session in Word), and now it is flaky, often crashing/freezing.
Crashes in Word when using OneDrive seem to also bring down Powerpoint quite often or vice versa (e.g. when cutting and pasting figures from slides into Word for a report).
