I'm having the same issues! I check the dev's twitter page (pdanet on twitter) almost daily to see if the next version might be coming out soon. I really love the app, but I'm considering moving over to mywi if this doesn't get fixed soon.

I don't seem to be have the issues mentioned at all. I've done huge files and it all works flawlessly on PDAnet 1.53. I had purchased the app when it first came out for SSL Connections.

If I tether using the Apple way, I get 500 kbps which is ok. But with PDAnet I get 2 mbps and the speed tests max out at about 1.8 mbps which is better.

Finally for some reason Outlook syncs only when connected with PDAnet.

PdaNet 1.53 on my 3GS works fine for most web pages, but for some reason it always stalls out on larger pages or files after a few MB. I have no idea why, and it happens on all the computers I've tried it on. PdaNet 1.51 worked for everything, including streaming videos from Hulu, but it drained the iPhone's battery (my old 3G) much faster.

Yeah same problem here. The stalling/quitting problem started happening after the 3.0 update to the iPhone.

I can get surf for a couple of minutes but then the app seems to die and disconnect.

PDANet has always been a bit flaky for me as far as getting a connection as well.

In any case, I love mywi! Works great! I'm going to keep pdanet around, though. MyWi isn't working with 3.1 and apparently apple can track tethering usage w/ 3.1... so I guess it doesn't hurt to have both installed.

I got PDAnet to work on my 3Gs and MacBook. It was very simple and that is saying a lot because I am a tech e-tard. My question is will I be charged for using it? I know after the 14 day trial it is 29 bucks. I don't mind paying that at all if it works correctly but will I be charged by AT&T? I am running 3.0 and don't think I will be updating to 3.1 anytime soon.

Nobody has been charged yet. So probably not. Just don't do anything "excessive" like download Torrents and whatnot.

My vote is for PDANET

Pdanet is by far more stable. I have been using it since iphone 2g 1.1.4 fw and have used it since currently on iphone 2g 3.0 fw. Good customer support. 30$ may be a little steep but they actually did the work of porting the connection through non-native means. Mywi basically just made a toggle for the native tether feature and are taking credit for that. MYWI requires you to install the rockapp and something else which is more trouble than its worth. The idea for the wifi feature of the MYWI app is badass but i had little luck getting a stable connection with this feature. It constantly failed requiring me to reboot every time i tried to use it. If PDANET were to incorporate that feature they would make a lot of people happy. You can do this already with pdanet but you have to initiate connection with a laptop to pdanet on iphone then jump on that connection with whatever device you want to use the wifi on and disconnect laptop afterwards.

As for the charges I can't say they will never come but i have been tethering with the iphone since it was first made available and have been doing so since and have never been charged. I have downloaded updates, torrents, videos, files, pictures, browsed web, streamed music, shared connection via ICS with a friend so he could play WOW all the time, played xbox live, and halo & halo 2 PC online all with pdanet connection and never received a bill for doing so. I have a general rule that I try to follow. No more than 100MB in a single day, and try not to go over 3.5GB in a month. My 2 cents. hope it helps...

PDANet is garbage IMO. I had constant problems with it when trying to use it in Ad-Hoc mode. Only ever got it to work 'reliably' in USB mode, which SUCKS.

MyWi is 100% better, and 1/3 the price! The Wireless mode actually works, unlike PDANet half the time.

Here is the workflow for PDANet:

Launch PDA Net. Switch to WiFi mode. PDANet says go start Ad-Hoc network then Join it. Start Ad-Hoc network on laptop. Go to Settings.app and select Ad-Hoc network. Go back to PDANet, it says it is ready. Try to connect. No dice. Go back to PDANet, it says start ad-hoc network on laptop and select it in settings. I just DID THAT. WTF. Repeat x 10 for each time you want to try to make it work.

The fact that you can share your connection like a MiFi hotspot and that it costs significantly less makes MyWi a clear winner for me.

Make sure you don't have the benm or carrier IPCC hacks installed when trying to use PDAnet or MiWi. I couldn't get them to work either, until I removed the benm and IPCC hacks, then the JB tethering apps starting working fine. Not sure if this is your issue or not, but it worked for me back on 3.0.0.

I have the BenM carrier hack for tethering installed and PDANet still works fine.

Just because PDANET appears not to work properly doesn't mean it is the PDANET program. I have been having issues for a few weeks with the wifi feature on PDANET and just resolved it yesterday. After 5+ hours on phone with apple and 3+ hours on chat with gateway neither fixed the issue. I read that when you uninstall a driver it goes back automatically to the one you had installed before. I assumed when you uninstalled it and click check for driver it went to the web to download lastest driver. So I uninstalled driver several times checking if PDANET wifi worked each time and finally after reverting back to about the 6th driver it does work perfectly.

Apple told me it was the 2g iphone hardware defect and I needed to buy a new 3GS. Gateway was ridiculous rude and also stated that the problem was the phone. And you are telling me that PDANET has a problem working via wifi

All of you are wrong. I have also found that enabling ICS cause a static IP address to your wireless so IF you are trying to share the USB connection via wifi then try to connect PDANET via wifi at a later date you will have difficulty getting it to work properly.

Also I love the wireless feature of MyWi and would gladly put it on my phone but the trial version never worked more than about 20 seconds for me and I had to Hard reboot everytime I tried to use it.
