I could use more HD space but otherwise runs great and I like it.
Running a machine that is so powerful and SILENT is awesome.

The machine itself is amazing (I basically agree with all the excellent reviews of the performance (in this thread and everywhere else), but I found that the physical build quality (outside of the metal parts) of this thing surprisingly terrible.

Plastic for RAM sockets? I can never understand why they decided to do this. Even the standard RAM sockets that they have in MacMini/Macbook will work great (with the metal clips), but no, they have to make it all in plastic. Thin, easily broken/bent plastic, too.

The metal body look great and solid, but then you open it up and found cheaply looking things in there. It was such a turn off. The unit that came through my desk a month ago, had a malfunctioning RAM socket, in addition to the socket being bent a little so it's skewed/uneven at the top. It looked really bad, and on top of that I had to return it right away to have the broken socket repaired (it won't recognize any RAM stick being inserted there).
You're of course entitled to your opinion, but it's sometimes funny how different people's reactions can be. I'm really tough critic, but I found the entire engineering and product finish both inside and out to be amazing... I'm actually more impressed with the cover off. :)

Can't believe I didn't check this site for a whole month

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I think the entire design of the MacPro is nothing short of amazing. It just looks absolutely beautiful. Both from outside and inside with the cover off.

It's the manufacturing that I have problem with. I only have an experience with one unit, so by no means what I see is representative of anything besides giving me (one person) a bitter taste, but because of my experience I can't help but thinking that the whole manufacturing line is sloppy, and that it could have been much much better. The fact that it *looks* so beautiful is only making me more upset. Why have this great amazing design and put cheap materials inside and sloppy workers working on it? This thinking basically ruins this otherwise perfect machine for me.

(I think I know at least one of the reasons, but...)

the only thing I liked about it is that it's silent. Other than that, I was pretty disappointed with the "bang for buck performance". FPCX can't playback smoothly at 1080p unless rendered and CPU had a hard time keeping up with my project in Logic Pro X. My hope now is to wait for the 12 Core E5-2697v2 price to drop. My regret was opting for the D700s, should have stayed with D300s. Forgive me if this post has made you nMP users uncomfortable, this is just my personal experience and I'm glad if you are extremely satisfied with yours. It's a wonderful machine nonetheless. :apple:

That sounds like a failure of your workflow, not the machine, honestly. My old Mac can do 1080p without issues.

I finally gave mine a little bit of a test a couple of days ago. Did an all day ProTools recording session, recording multiple tracks simultaneously with several plug-ins. I have the 6 core model. Of the 12 processors that display in the performance window, I never got any higher than 3 processors at 1%. The Intel i7 quad core I was using previous to this couldn't handle the work load and would often just crash, saying not enough resources. However, what was even more exciting... it only takes a few seconds to start up ProTools, and I recorded 192 full tracks without ever once restarting ProTools or rebooting the Mac. If you've ever used Windows with ProTools, you know that about every 20 minutes it will crash and lock up (usually mid song), requiring a re-boot, which generally takes 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how much stuff you have it loading up in ProTools. A WHOLE DAY without a single restart or reboot!!! Life is good! I realized that part of that is just OSX vs Windows, but still very cool.

For working with my 4K videos my 6-core Mac Pro with LaCie 1TB Little Big Disk Thunderbolt-2 SSD and Final Cut Pro X is a dream come true. It's as quiet as my Core i7 Mac Book Air.
