Up, up in my studio, studio
My iTunes library contains:
  • Music: 7573 songs, 26.2 days, 69.41 GB. It's about 75% at 256 Kbit AAC, 5% ALAC, 20% other bitrates.
  • Movies: 408 movies, 14.8 days, 124.80 GB. This includes a sizable percentage of kids'/family shows and animated shorts. Over 95% of it is HandBraked using the iPhone/iPod Touch preset, which makes for nice, small filesizes that play well on my daughter's iPod touch, on my nano and acceptably well enough on the Apple TV. A small handful of selections are encoded higher (Avatar, WALL-E, Star Trek: First Contact, and a couple of Blender open-source shorts like Big Buck Bunny).
  • TV Shows: 7 shows/series, 138 total episodes, 3.85 GB. Again, encoded in iPhone/iPod touch.

That leads to approximately 198 GB total.

I've attached a snapshot of my current Top 25 by playcount. This is about fourteen months' worth of playback; the counts would have been about three times as high had my previous iMac not been taken in a burglary, and probably a little more diverse in genre.

Not on my eMac at the moment which has my library, but I know it's 8 or 9 GB. I don't have any movies, TV shows or photos to put on there, just music. And I'm dead broke all the time, so even though I'd love to increase its content, I simply cannot afford new music. :(

I never understood why some people have a ridiculously large quantity of items in their libraries.

I'd say it was the result of differing priorities. I'll use myself as an example. I'm a big electronic/dance music fan, as well as a hobbyist musician. It would follow that I would probably have a relatively large music library compared to, say, yours.

On the other hand, I'm not that big of a movie buff. Thus, I probably wouldn't have had a very large number of videos-- had I not had a child. My daughter's DVD collection is pretty big, and using the :apple:tv to show them on screen rather than scratching up the DVDs over and over is one big factor for having them in my library.

I would think there's people out there who do just have a limitless taste for all kinds of music, and really do enjoy listening to everything they possibly can.

But the people with ridiculous amounts of songs in their library; come on, there's no way you could possibly enjoy every one of those songs enough to justify having spent the money on them, what's the point other than having a "Mine is bigger" showoff?

I have a lot of artists I like, and they release a lot of free music. I have no reason to not have their collection if I can, and I never really deleted anything (since I was 14). To be honest I have a large amount of music I haven't heard more than once or at all, but there's no reason to delete it.

Bottom line: I love music.

I have 549 songs on my iPod 5th generation, about to load up Oranj and a John Zorn album. My most played songs are:

1.) Guitarazzo by Astor Piazzolla (Edicion Critica: Piazzolla Interpreta A Piazzolla)

2.) Yesterdays by Dave Brubeck (Nightshift)

3.) Home at Last by Steely Dan (Aja)

4.) I Got the News by Steely Dan (Aja)

5.) Ruby My Dear by Thelonious Monk (Thelonious Alone in San Francisco)

Actually, I'm arranging a couple of the songs I have on there for a string quartet.

Mine has grown okay since December 2010, I guess!

Still very small in comparison to some of these posts, JEEZ!

3,006 songs; 8:12:17:17 total time; 16.58 GB (most if not all, are MP3 and I convert to 128 KBPS to save space on my iPhone anyways).

Top list:
Same 2 as before (280 and 117, respectively)
  • Lights (Eyes Remix) orig. Ellie Goulding (76)
  • Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix) orig. Ellie Goulding (70)
These two are tied
  • Camo & Krooked - Watch It Burn (66)
  • Mt. Eden DnB - Chasing Shadows (66)

The average amount of plays in my Top 25 is around 60, btw. :)

1372gb's, all music @ AAC 128kbps. 295,167 'songs', 1062 days. In order to work my way through all this music I add (New) after the genre (i.e. Jazz A-L (New)) to each album and remove it after I listen to it. I add a * to those albums that I find particularly appealing.

Some people like music. I listen to albums on average about 5 times before I get tired of them. That 1500 or so songs on your screenshot would only last me a few months they were all unfamiliar.

I currently have about 3020 albums in Apple lossless taking up 970GB (itunes says it is 903GB) It used to be closer to 1.5TB, but deleted a crapload so I didn't have to use external drives. I am still deleting stuff to make room for new music.

I also have a ridiculous amount of iPods- 4 classics and 4 Nanos.

Jet Drive / iTunes Library help please

Hi

I'm looking for advice for my mac air and using jet drives and iTunes library.
Ok so I have 90GB of music loaded onto the HD and it filled it. I went out and bought a 120gb jet drive after being told about it. Now I have most of my music on the jet but some on the HD still. I also have iTunes library. Can you tell me how to sort it out? Ideal would be all music in library and jet drive and none on HD. Is that what you would do? Does iTunes library affect your HD memory ? Do i have music in the HD and Jet drive unnecessarily as its in the library ? Its confusing !
