i just sold mine today. i had it for about a month, but decided that since i'm out of school now, i probably won't be using it very much. i will probably pick up an ultraportable.

I'm planning to use for 2.5-3 years then will sell it and get the latest ultraportable apple model. Portability is very important to me and plus I don't think I would need a powerful computer in med school anyways

I plan on buying the next upgrade assuming it has the 5x faster GPU and 128gb SSD. Everything else will be icing.

Heh, some of you guys are pretty funny. You are joking, aren't you? :D

I finally let go of my 12" PB, to get the Air. Had that 12" PB for four years. Didn't plan to keep it that long, but it took that long for Apple to come up with an update in that size range--I looked seriously at the 13" PB, but it was nearly as big and heavy as the MBP.

So will I keep this Air for another 4 years? Hard to believe it will be useful for that long. But you never know.

As long as I can..... I think it would be worth quite a bit in 20 years time... come on! its the first of its kind! :).... the box and all that are staying, but my only concern is that the scratches that i might get on it... hence my dilemma with the case :(

" I am a slave to Apple." Sorry! Didn't mean to offend any Apple slaves!

"keep it until i get bored with it... which is soon?" Yes, boredom is such a terrible thing.

"Until the next revision :)
Hopefully in january." Maybe this is not that funny, but it does have a :).

I already got rid of mine. I owned it for three months and it just wasn't holding up to what I wanted it to do. I decided I could live with the two extra pounds on the Pro. I'm not going to knock the machine though, I could easily see why people would keep it for years to come if they just do basic stuff.

Assuming a solid upgrade with at least 128gig SSD and a much faster GPU, I will buy the MBA2

Until it's dead (considering the three years warranty) or if Apple releases a new model that has a longer battery life, and a dead silent fan in all circumstances.

I'll keep mine until the next revision is available as a refurb at the Apple Store website. No point paying full price when you can't tell a difference between Apple's new and refurb computers. Same warranty too.

Completely agreed. I've just received my refurbished iMac 24" last monday and I'm all amazed about it. It's my first refurbished Apple and I do recommend so far.

I will be keeping mine until the next one comes out. I am a slave to Apple.

lmao, Jobs loves people like you.

I'm not really any different though...if the next one offers something really spectacular that the current rev doesn't, I'll sell mine and upgrade. If not, I'll go until my battery needs a changing. 2 years maybe? 2.5 Max. After that, you sort of just want something newer and better :p

It makes more sense IMO to sell frequently and keep up with the newer stuff (if you're into the whole apple scene...)

I bought a MBP in July/Aug and then sold it when the Air came out. ~7 months of usage. Sold it for around 200-250 less than I paid for it. But I got to "upgrade" to a brand new Air for a tiny cost. Worth it IMO. Why wait til your laptop is worth nothing in 7 years? If you sell every year, you can recoup a decent amount of your investment and only have to chip in a tiny bit to buy the latest and greatest.

How long will you try to keep up with a multi-billion dollar corporation?

Wow. What a market for Apple to be in... Judging from most of the responses on here, not only do they get to sell a high-margin, relatively under-specced laptop once, they also get to do it again in two years time...

Indeed. As a corporate manager at Apple, it would entertain me to no end to know just how little we could offer our consumers, and how much they'd be willing to pay for it!

I'm shooting for 4 years. Especially if I can upgrade to a 128 GB SSD for under $200 within the next 2 years.

This is a secondary computer for me, so blazing speed is not essential.

3 years, when the applecare expires. This thing has more than enough power for what i need it to do so theirs no reason for me to upgrade any time soon.

How long are you planning to keep your MBA

I plan on keeping mine until version 3 of the MBA comes out. I am not sure that it would be worth upgrading and spending another 2k so soon after purchasing the machine I own. Suppose this means I will have mine for sometime in the 2-3 year range.

I'll keep mine as long as its useful. My previous laptop I had for four years and it was still ok for what I use it for. I just happened to have the air fall into my lap so to say. My next purchase will probably be an iMac at some point and kept the Air as my portable for some time.

Assuming a solid set of features in the MBA2, I plan on selling my current MBA and upgrading as soon as the new model is released.

This all assumes, of course, a very solid upgrade. I love my MBA, but there are very real limitations I hope Apple addresses in the next version.
