i think you can downgrade it for 1.1.1.

never tested before, but you can work with same instructions to hack 1.1.1 (downgrade to 1.0.2 and then update)

just seems logical to me...

If you can downgrade then it's not a problem as 1.1.1 has holes, as we know.

They really struggled initially to get into 1.1.1 and I'm sure 1.1.2 will take a lot longer than a few weeks to get into.

The downgrade route (does that work with iTunes 7.5?) might be the best bet if it works.

Hopefully confirmation will arrive when 1.1.2 lands in the next day or so.

It will be extremey interesting to watch this again. I followed the process of breaking 1.1.1 very closely.

The trouble with the 1.1.2 update is that it fixes the TIFF exploit that the 1.1.1 unlock relied upon to gain access to the phone and so on. So with 1.1.2 they will need to find a completely new way of going about things.

I'm certain they will do this, but no one can say when this will happen.

I think you're mad to buy a phone with a mind to unlocking it when there is no unlock or even a time frame for it. Just wait for the unlock, then buy.

I think that Apple would have done something about downgrading to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2 aswell because shorley they would have known that people would try and do that, don't you think?

This is exactly my reservation. I can't see it being that easy to side step the defences in 1.1.2.

14 Days

Can you still sign-up and then cancel your contract before it's too late (to cancel)? How much time do you have - 14 days? 30 days??

You have a 14 day "change of mind" or "remorse" period.

That's what I'm thinking. If you activate your new UK iPhone, what happens to it if you cancel the contract with O2? Will it just stop working?

there is no easy way to downgrade anyway... in itunes you need to press the option (on mac) key and click on "restore" in itunes. and you need to make sure you already have the old firmware files ready.
i can't see apple blocking that option.

Is there anything to stop you using the older firmware files and using iTunes to downgrade the phone to that firmware, with the option method?

I don't see why that would brick the phone in anyway?

But then, you have to activate the phone to get to the downgrade option, do you not?

So we are going to have to wait until the activation is bypassed on 1.1.2, and then we should be able to downgrade.
