Does anyone know the frequency at which developers previews of Yosemite are released?
Is it like betas that go out every 2 weeks or so?

Two to four weeks, hopefully sooner, since I cannot yet use OS X 10.10 Yosemite as fully as I really need to for my primary OS. It is a shame, that Apple would release such buggy software to the public like that. Almost all of my applications broke, and now I have to make due with silly alternatives.
They were much better when Woz was still around during the Tiger days.

Agreed.
I downloaded mavericks last year when it was almost on GM and i was completely dissapointed in the bugs still remaining.
This time I´m not downloading Yosemite until i´m sure it´s polished.. which could potentially take until 10.10.1 if last year repeats itself

Are you being serious? It’s NOT released to the public nor intended to be used as a primary OS. It is an early beta released to developers.

Wait.

1. It's not public. (public beta isn't released yet)
2. You aren't supposed to use that as a primary OS.
Officially It's a bare bones preview OS (as the release name states), which is made for developers to allow them test the compatibility of their apps and adjust their UI accordingly to new design. Anything which is more to it is just a nice extra.

So stop complaining.

Of course I am not serious. When Apple releases a DP or beta of their OS, they are fully aware, that non-developers will also get their hands on, thus they should take extra care to release a stable built, like they did with the DP of Mac OS X 10.0 back then some years ago, when the Woz was still involved in all the development.

I just find it ridiculous, that I cannot use a DP as my primary OS, breaking everything. Does Apple really think, if I make money with my Macs, I have to stay with official releases? Why? The beta of Mac OS X 10.6.11 was never that buggy, I could use it before it was released. Now I have to revert back to OS X 10.9.5 in order to use my Mac. What a shame. They ruined everything, I lost all my data and have to recreate weeks of work. If they would only include a backup system like they had in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and earlier versions.

But then again, I was forced, by sheer stupidity.

I will never stop complaining until Apple releases a stable OS, and since DP 1 is one of the most unstable public releases yet, I have a lot of fodder.

Or I could just stop.

I guess my post borders on trolling? Yeah, we need that sarcasm colour.

:D :D

DP from the definition is as close to the stable version as you are close to the moon.
This is what you get for being a smartass. :p

Not sure if you are being serious tho.

Somebody fishing?

It confuses me, and probably others, that you do not understand the concept of betas or Developer Previews, especially with the following sentence.

In other words, you should be used to buggy software and should understand, what betas actually are: a testbed for developers to find bugs with the software itself and the collaboration with one's own software.
Hell, I am not a developer nor participate in beta programs, and even I can understand the concept. If it was a public release, meaning, it would be sold or given away free to potential customers, then it would be another matter, but since OS X 10.10 Yosemite is a beta, it is understandable, that it can contain bugs, and maybe the one you experience is limited to your installation and hardware, due to you having done something special.

But then again, you should feel entitled nonetheless.

Trying to use a DP 1 as a primary OS is like trying to use a Powerpoint presentation...as a primary OS.

I'am not saying that you can't use it as daily driver tho, as in some cases (including mine :D) you can clearly do so. But it depends on many factors, it's a hit or miss, and obviously DP wasn't intended to be used like that.

I've got to admit that this is one of the most unstable DP releases I've seen since so far, but at the same time it's by far the biggest release, if we consider they only had a year to work on it. You'd expect that. Plus, it's a DP, you can't judge until it's final.

The OS is in its final shape, now they have 3 to 5 months to fix everything, I'm confident that they can come up with something solid.

DP2 will be expected any day now starting from Monday.

I've been running it in vmware for that reason.

You are one serious ****************.

White is still visible, just make your context right

simsaladimbamba That is the most ridiclous thing i have heard in VERY long time.

BTW there is no 10.9.5 or 10.6.11

No one told you to install 10.10 DP and DP is for the developers that need to make sure the apps YOU are using are working before you get your hands on the final version in FALL.

DP is not out public, its out for the paid developers and to me it sound you got a copy the illegal way.

apple even states that it shouldn't be installed as a primary os!!! read the god damn info before you install.

damn people are stupid.

Pretty sure all of his posts were jokes..being sarcastic..not serious.

I'm having some iOS 7 flashbacks here.

(during beta testing period)

"Hey guys I'm having some huge issues with iOS 7."
"IT'S A BETA!!!"

(after GM)

"Hey guys I'm having some huge issues with iOS 7."
"What are you talking about? I have never had any problems and this is the most amazing product I've ever used. Go buy a Scamsung xDDDD"

You should just stop. There's a reason this is Developer Preview 1, not Beta 6 or a Release Candidate. If you're wanting a pre-beta OS to be stable, then you better skip all OSes currently being made (including Windows, the various Linux distros, iOS, and Android). It simply doesn't work the way you want it. Also, this is NOT a public release, given that you have to be part of the Developer Program to legitimately download it. Just because some people are breaking the EULA doesn't mean it's suddenly a "public" release.

Your comparison to 10.6.11 is pointless, as you're comparing a late-cycle update to a preliminary version of an OS. And how are you running OS X 10.9.5 when Apple is currently seeding 10.9.4 to developers? You lost your data - that's your fault for failing to have proper backups, not Apple's fault. It's your responsibility to back up your own data, not Apple's job to do it for you. One final question: how was Woz involved with OS X 10.0 development when it occurred 14 years AFTER he left the company (Woz left Apple on Feb 6, 1987, OS X was released in 2001)?

I am sorry, I guess sarcasm, even if highly exaggerated, still does not translate that well in written form.

I was just having fun with another ridiculous thread, but then again, this is a serious place, I often forget.
