Looking for my first Apple PC and I think I've decided on the 2012 MacMini. I'd like to pick up a refurb unit before they disappear. How long do you think Apple might have these? Will they be available closer to Christmas, or should I pick one up now if a 2012 version is important?

ALso, is RefurbMe the best place to sign up for notifications? The $419 i5 and $589 i7 seems like really good prices.

Thanks!

Best Buy is selling off new I5's for $450, which is pretty close to the refurb price. You can check their website to see which local stores have them. Otherwise you can buy from them online and save a little tax (no local tax, only state).

That is just joke. If the "minority" of people only upgrade ram and hard drives, companies that sell ram would go out of business. Ram sells all day long every day. Even grandma has a grandson that upgrades her ram. Stop with the FUD.

I maintain that the majority of the computer using population never upgrades their hardware throughout the life of their computer. Keep in mind that I'm including businesses. I know for a fact that the IT department at the HP campus I worked at for a year does not upgrade the hardware in the workstations that are used by the employees. When a computer doesn't suit the needs of the user anymore, they get a new computer. The same goes for the company I'm working at currently. I know dozens of people who just buy a new computer instead of upgrading.

The companies that sell hardware upgrades don't go out of business because there is enough of a market made up of folks like you and I that actually DO upgrade their computers. Keep in mind that this forum is not a representative group of the average computer user.

Why do you think apple made the ram non-upgradeable? Because EVERYONE upgrades their ram and they were not getting sales. Duh.

Apple soldered the RAM in to cut manufacturing costs. The number of users that non-upgradeable RAM would impact wasn't significant enough to justify sticking to the old design. I'd say you're the one spreading FUD here.

Yeah, I picked up mine for $399 during the last sale and just returned the one I got for $419 from Apple. I think I'm good now. I wasn't expecting BB to have this sale, nor was I expecting Apple to have the refurbs for as often as they did.

I wasn't willing to wait a little closer to Christmas to buy, just incase they did run out.

$399 was a great deal and congrats. Enjoy!

For those of you in the UK, PC World (or whatever it is called now) are selling the 2012 i7 cheap. Can't remember the price, but looking at their website the i5 model is £379!!. From what I remember the i7 was around £100-ish cheaper than list and they have them in because nobody buys anything from them any more.
