No problem I completely understand! Just a thought. For 100 I see your point!
Have you bought anything refurbished?
Another option I was thinking about was keeping the SE for now and doing a battery replacement, Its at 88% battery health

My MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple watch. They take items that are returned within the 14 day return period and if something is wrong they fix it and inspect every little thing which they don't do on the assembly line with new devices. 99% of the time it was just an exchange for a different color, storage, etc. I only buy refurbs. I've never had so much as a dead pixel on any of my apple devices. They've all been perfect because they're inspected like crazy. But that's only the refurbs from apple's site mind you. They have phenomenal quality control. That wouldn't be the case for refurbs from say a Dell. Keeping the SE and getting a battery replacement is also a good option.

The battery life is terrible like the SE is running fast but damn is it dying fast too

Since going to IOS 12

If you look at the Geekbench Mobile Benchmarks for single and multicore performance, the iPhone 8+ has a score of 10,130. This makes it the 4th fastest smartphone after the iPhone Xs, Xr, and Xs Max, and ahead of the iPhone X of last year. Unless Apple screws up iOS, expect the iPhone 8+ to last 2 years with great battery life and then change the battery to get another 2 years. Personally, I get bored within 24-30 months of any smartphone and change.

Apple refurbs are pretty close to new and have the same warranty. Definitely worth considering.

The 8 runs iOS 12 like a dream. The phone will work flawlessly for minimum 4 years from now.
I agree, but by the time iOS15 comes out, I would expect the 8 to be pretty laggy and slow, most likely due to 2GB RAM.

In that case try a battery replacement and see if after you still have an itch to upgrade. Maybe you won't and you'll be able to save some money.

Actually, it’s nearly impossible to differentiate between a refurbished and new device, as Apple replaces the display and casing. (Including the battery in most cases, although it has to pass a series of tests).

Depends entirely on how Apple handle iOS for it. The 6 runs iOS 12 just fine.

Either way if OP is thinking of buying an 8 they will get a good few years out of it.

This is pretty subjective and depends a lot on what you do with your iPhone 6 (admittedly what I said about the 8 was also a bit subjective). I was using a 6 with iOS 12 up to yesterday and I thought it was unbearably slow when it came to swapping apps, running CarPlay, switching tabs in Safari, and even starting the camera. I’m pretty sure it was mostly due to only 1GB of RAM

That said, I do agree that the 8 will have at least 1 or 2 years before it reaches this point

1 of 2 Years?? 4-5 more years .

Actually, the 8 should be supported for at least 5 more years (through iOS16) but I’m predicting some noticeable slow downs will be seen by iOS15, so 2-3 years (my math mistake!) due to RAM limitations.
Just because of 2gb of ram?

Just because of 2gb of ram?
Yes, the sluggishness will probably due to RAM, by then I suspect iOS will have evolved to take advantage of more RAM. But there will probably other functionality missing due to the slower neural engine in the A11 vs the A12 and beyond. I also foresee AR/machine learning/AI taking off faster in the next few years, which all are related to the neural engine.

It will last as long as the battery is decent, if not updated.
I'm using an iPhone 6s on iOS 9.3.3. Battery life: 8-9 hours of on-screen use. Performance: flawless. Get an 8, never update it, and you'll be fine for years to come.

How long do you guys think the iPhone 8 will be supported, updated and running fast?
Do you think Apple will try to stop supporting it earlier to phase out the home button completely?
There was already no new iDevice with a home button this year. But the MacBook Air and Pro use TouchID, so Apple will maintain the necessary code.

Major new software features in iOS 12 depend on the TrueDepth camera system a.k.a. the notch and a second generation Neural Engine.

Having said that, the A11 Bionic has a modern 64bit architecture and will be fast enough to run future iOS versions for decades to come.

Apart from high-performance features like Smart HDR which the A11 Bionic can’t support at all, expect iOS 12 to run even faster (not slower) than iOS 11 on the same hardware.
