I have my .mac, work, and a couple connected to my personal domain name.

I have 3 accounts:

1.) Main GMail account. Used for my Android phone and all my personal and work emails.
2.) Yahoo! account. It was my first email account but I rarely send emails from it. Most emails in this account are from companies like Apple and HP sending me information about their newest "deals."
3.) Craigslist account. I hate using my personal account when it comes to Craigslist, and I don't like fishing for emails from potential buyers through all my other emails, so I now use this exclusively for CL.

I have no problem managing all 3, and it keeps my emails organized.

2 for each domain I own. Another Mobile Me (or .net or .me .icloud, whatever it's called), and finally an 11 year old Hotmail account.

I have

- Home (Own domain/server)
- School
- iCloud
- Spam

And probably a couple of others that were made obsolete years ago :p

I don't really think you need a set number. I only really use my home account, and I've set my school email to always reply to my home account etc. I could live with one, sometimes more makes things easier.

I have only one address which I use for everything. Some incoming mail is filtered to different folders.

I don't even know why one would need more than 1 email address as long as it's decent looking.

I have too many. My main two are my personal @mac (plus four aliases and @me), then school. Then three domain, a few gmail, and a yahoo.

And probably another ten between Yahoo and Hotmail that I don't remember from years ago.

Since it's been bumped back to life... I added an @outlook.com email to my arsenal. The UI is pretty clean and sleek and I was able to snag a first initial/last name address since the service is pretty much brand new.

Saw an Engadget story about it yesterday at work and was impressed with the looks, so I had to snatch it up.

You would certainly want different addresses for personal and business (or school) mail. Also a "throw away" address is useful for when you need an address to get a computer generated reply. That one doesn't have to be decent looking.

The right number really depends on you, but IMAP is a good idea, then you can easily control it.

I have three:
1. @me.com - personal/work
2. @gmail.com - personal to people/sites I don´t trust
3. @gmail.com - for registering, spams and so

I don´t need more :)
