Also does OSX support that feature where random bits are written over deleted data to keep write speeds at maximum speeds?

Do you mean TRIM support? No, OS X does not currently support that feature. However, the drives used in the new MacBook Airs do support TRIM (it will run in a Windows 7 partition, for instance), so it is possible that OS X will be updated in the future to support it. Meanwhile, according to AnandTech, the Toshiba controller in the new MacBook Air's SSD does some "garbage collection" of its own to reduce (but not eliminate) the problem of performance degradation.

It so much depends on how the computer is being used. I'm using 150 out of 250 on my Macbook. 350 out of 1000 on my iMac. These systems are used with several virtual machines (these take the most space), photo, and video work. I've got a Mac mini server that has about 2.5TB used out of 4TB. I've got a couple of Mac minis used only as entertainment servers that have no media and just Plex installed. Lots of free space on those!

Using about 150GB on my MBA Ultimate. Had 500GB MBP. I realized that I had a lot of files that I didn't use. After using the MBA, it feels like I'm being more efficient in what I keep on my hard drive and it makes me more diligent in backing up...

I was thinking about buying the MBA 11" 64GB as my primary computer. Having looked around this forum I notice many users advising others that not even the 13" MBA 256GB should be a primary computer due to the lack of CD/DVD drive and low storage.

I'm guessing i'm in the minority of not having any photos, movies or tv shows on my computer - I only store my music and some documents on it. This means that I am only using about 27GB and have no plans to expand on that as music/radio entertains me enough.

My question is (purely out of interest)... how many GB are you currently using on your Macintosh HD (any Mac applies) and if you're using over 256GB, how? :)

It all depends on your usage man. some people need files to take with them for photography work etc. My wife and I are very light users as we only have about 150gb between all our music/photos etc.

We have an airport extreme with a 1tb drive attached for all our storage so we can both access it at anytime and even over the internet. We both have the 11inch MBA and currently i have 41.72gb free out of 60.32gb (64gb flash). We have an external dvd burner from when i had my netbook so no need for an internal drive as we only burn cd's maybe a few times a year.

We also have photos on google docs so no need for big internal drive space. It works for us, but may not work for someone else.
