External display support has been disabled until Christmas for now, but yes, it will be via stage manager only on M1, impossible to have split screen, slide over etc. at the same time (also keyboard and mouse/trackpad need to be connected, otherwise it will only mirror at 4:3)
Exactly you need stage manager enabled and magic keyboard or keyboard and mouse attached, otherwise it will be mirroring (you cannot not have the normal UI on the tablet and stage manager on the monitor, as it is possible with Dex, where you can have the tablet UI on the tablet and Dex on the monitor). So also with M1 without using stage manager I have 4:3 mirroring? Blahhhhhh.... And have to wait Christmas for full external monitor support?!?!? Disappointed.
As others pointed out you still miss external display support which is a true bummer ,as well as display scaling which is also nice to have on a big displayI’ve got the 2020 Pro 11” with the 12Z Bionic. Didn’t really care about Stage Manager, but now that I get it, I wonder if there’s a reason to upgrade.
I guess the new Pro will have fancy features, maybe. But if the introduction is just a press release, it makes me think there won’t be a big difference. I guess M1 to M2?
Also, it kind of bums me out if it’s just a press release because of the base iPad. Need to upgrade my mom from the 5th Gen. They say it’ll be a brand new design. Isn’t that alone substantial enough for an event?
Duh? That’s ridiculous indeedSo also with M1 without using stage manager I have 4:3 mirroring? Blahhhhhh.... And have to wait Christmas for full external monitor support?!?!? Disappointed.

Until Christmas stage manager is only on the tablet, monitor is not ready yet, they even removed it from the beta

Thank you very much to clarify this...Even worse. You will have to wait until Christmas for Stage Manager.
Full external monitor support without Stage Manager isn't currently a thing and isn't planned to be a thing.
I hear people saying Stage Manager won’t even work well on the 11” Pros due to the smaller screen. Guess I’ll find out.
Still baffled by the lack of an event. Brand new iPad Pro. Brand new base model with significant design changes. New notebooks?
My 2020 model 11“ is refurbished. The trade-in value is I suppose reasonable (not really). But I also have a gift card from trading in my 8th Gen. Working with Apple with that stuff is frustrating. You’re just not getting a very good deal.
I used to buy stuff on Swappa, but PayPal is asking for ridiculous things now. Like a photocopy of your driver license. They already have enough of my info. If there’s ever a breach, I don’t want them to know absolutely everything about me.
Anyway, I suppose we’ll see how things will unfold. Stage Manager might be awesome, even for those with the 11”. Time will tell!
