I honestly believe this will sell out in the first few days. They will not be able to keep up with demand.

Phones are fashion items and their sales eclipse even the likes of the ipod.

Apple are entering a new league which will make the ipod look like very small beer.

I can't see them wanting to sacrifice phone sales by producing a mulititouch ipod though

I'm interested in seeing what peoples opinions are on this topic. I think its possible for 1 million iphones to be sold first day. I might be a bit optimistic, but even Cingular said that 1 million people signed up to receive updates about the iPhone. I'm not sure if Apple is even prepared to sell that many first day but it could be possible.

My mom is fascinated with them. That's saying something. She never gets excited about things like this, especially things that are still months away.

If they've got my mom interested, I would guess they have got A LOT of people interested.

Apple will do what it always does: Open for ordering in June, claim delivery by end of July, and finally ship in late September.

I was totally stoked until I found out that it was over $500 bucks WITH a contract...owwie. Most people I know want one but the price is a lot to bear for a phone, regardless of how cool it is.

Part of me hopes it crashes, even though it won't, since I can see Apple concentrating on putting out a new iPhone every 6 months rather than new iPods (how long have we all been waiting for a touch screen iPod now? :( )

BUT a shot in the dark? 443,337 day one.

I don't think iPhone will be as successful as some people might think for one simple reason, price. I know it's irrelevant but look at the PS3 and all the hype before and after it's launch, the Cell processor, Blu-Ray, all the latest and greatest technology available, but the price threw off a lot of people and a fact that most people already had PS2, XBox, Nintendo systems didn't make a PS3 as hot of an item as Sony would have hoped. Of course lack of games doesn't help matters.

Anyway, I know it's kind of dumb comparing PS3 to an iPhone but again, most people already have cell phones, most are tied up with contracts, and I don't think most people are ready to throw over $500 for something that virtually does what a $50 Nokia does which is making phone calls, all that other gadgetry is secondary. I am more than sure there is a market for high-end phones but I don't think we are talking big numbers here. Add to that the current state of US economy and I think there is more people than ever that are money/savings savvy.

iPod was a success because of its design, easy of use, marketing, but most importantly it was priced about the same level as other MP3 players (I really don't think iPod would be as successful as it is today if it was twice as expensive as competition). I wish Apple well but I believe this will be one of the flops.

So in short, Apple will probably sell few hundred of thousands of them during the first week but then sales will drastically decline.

No, this thing will sell bucket loads. I would bet my house on it. People are fed up with the rushed out unreliable offerings from Nokia , Motorola, LG, Sony.

It has to work though as if there is anything wrong with it, the press will jump on it

It would be nice if there were enough on the first day but my guess is 100,000 and they run out. At least a lot of new cool phones will be coming out this year because of this phone. Apple really influences the market. Perhaps in 10 years, none of the phones sold will suck and we won't have these "Planet of the Apes" phones today.

>100,000 < 150,000

Just imagine folks, what that means in $! Allocate that to say 2/3 are the 4GB model and 1/3 are the 8GB model. You are looking at a possible daily income of 6 or 7 Million. Kaching!!

I see this happening. I also see a quick level off, say after the first week. Then I see a rising demand curve, because the early adopters will have shown if there are any bugs, or if the service is as hyped as it should be etc.

Apple and Cingular will wait till the demand curve begins a downward slope, and then, and only then, will they offer price concessions or monthly usage fee concessions to the user (hey, that's just smart business).

These concessions will not go with the 2Gen iphone which will be released in approx. a year. But, these 2Gen iphones will still be in the range of todays iphones.

I am going to get an iphone the day it comes out (Lord willing). When the 2Gen stuff starts coming out, I guess I will have to Ebay my 1stGen and hock something to get the 2Gen.

To all those people who have price concerns and believe it'll flop: read back to posts and news articles from 2001. The original iPod sold for $499 for the 10GB model, and people said that was too expensive and the iPod would never take off.

Why would you ever want to carry all your music around with you? Who would ever do that?

:)

Apple said they'd like to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008. That's about 830,000 a month or 27,397 a day (worldwide). This is just in the US though, but it is the first day I'm going for 20,000.

Still I think most people will be willing to pay the price. I've talked to people, and they aren't happy about the price, but they still want one. However, since your locked into Cingular, people will need to be done with there current plan, I've planned for it, and all my family's plans will end June 13ths, so I'm set. But not everyone is like me, waiting for the iPhone, but I guess we'll see

I have to agree with you. Btw, my individual line on our family share plan ends May 28th or something like that so I am all set. :)

Btw, anyone know whether you can keep your current phone #? (I'm switching from Verizon)

There will be lines around the country to get into Apple Stores to buy the iPhone at 12 midnight. You know Steve wants to make the launch a spectacle, get the local and national news covering how amazing the iPhone will be. The iPhone is Steve's baby, he will be doing everything in his power to hype it up. On the last conference call with investors Apple's CFO answered a question about iPhone marketing with, "Steve and the marking department have some exciting plans for the iPhone" or something similar.

Yes you can, you call a CSR [customer service rep] and get them to put in for a phone number transfer. By law they can't refuse to do it. Although they might charge you a change of number fee, but other than that you wont have a problem....enjoy! :)
