I have more than I need, as I can't figure out what to do with my old MBP. We have:
2020 5K iMac i7 - photo editing beast
2014 Mac Mini base - Plex and file server
2016 15" MBP - my old daily driver
2021 16" MBP M1 Pro - my wife's laptop
2021 14" MBP M1 Max - my new daily driver
and finally my desktop is a gaming PC that hardly gets any use these days

There is a user in these forums who has for the most part collected one example of every model and CPU option Apple offered in the entire PowerPC Mac lineup. Plus extras.

Right now they are all in a storage unit somewhere (he got married). But when he was single they filled every room of his apartment, including the closets. He has enough to open his own museum.

I always had the idea that when I finally win the lottery and buy a big house (rather than a small apartment) ill decorate the house with a selection of old Macs that will mainly be used as clocks or picture frames.

Normally I am uncritical of the power draw of my older Macs (in comparison my 5 ton AC unit draws around 5000W per hour and I live in Phoenix, Arizona) but I hesitate to simply leave these old Macs on for such a task as a clock.

Not criticizing your idea, just for me I need more of an excuse to have them on. :)

I am slowly retiring my older PowerPC Macs as they develop problems or fail. I had a G3 B&W as a server for a number of years. My G4 is now filling much of that role.

It's unfortunate, but my era of making PowerPC just work for modern tasks ended in May of 2020. The one justification I have is Adobe CC, but even then, I have to work hard at that justification.

4 Macs:

2008 Macbook Pro(early)- kept for nostalgia, for the love of Snow Leopard(!) mostly.
2016 Macbook Pro 15" - mostly unused since purchase, too lazy to do anything with it.
2104 iMac 5k - was actively used until earlier this year.
2020 M1 Mini - with ASD, almost perfect for my use.

A pair of 15” MBPs; one is a 2012 (main laptop) and the other is a 2008 (my media server/player and sound mixer, it’s complicated)

I have a iMac and a 15 inch pro but I mainly use the iMac for the screen size over the laptop.

I also have 3 older iMacs which all work and just retired. They are only worth £100 each or so. So not worth selling in my mind and I just switch on from time to time for nostalgia.

One is used by my daughter but rarely as all her school work is just done on iPad apps.

M2 Macbook Air
2015 11" Macbook Air
2011 21.5" iMac
Snow iBook G3

Recently bought the iMac for cheap, and surprisingly, I'm using it the most at the moment with OCLP Monterey. I will always have a soft spot for the 11" Air form factor, and will probably upgrade the SSD and replace the battery at some point in the near future. I kept the G3 iBook for firewire and syncing to a 2nd gen iPod, but that may be on the way out now I have the iMac.

in-service:

Mac Studio M2-Max
Mac Pro 5,1 (obligatory Kliban)
MBP 12,1

out-of-service:

iMac 12,2 (found near a dumpster; (still) awaiting BT mod, etc.)
MP 1,1 (awaiting re-purpose)
MB 6,1 (also awaiting re-purpose)

That's all (of 'em).

Oh, it will ;)
I have some hopes, yes. However, the first computer I ever owned that pleased me from the off was the OG 5K iMac.

Of those I’ve had since, except a fully loaded 2018 15” MBPro (hated it; choked on many tasks and just wasn’t “snappy”) and a fully loaded M1 Mac mini (just too weak with insufficient RAM for my use), have been the same (2020 fully loaded iMac, fully loaded 16” M1Max MBPro). That first 5K iMac remains the only computer I have ever used until EoL (no more macOS updates). It was feeling a bit laggy then, anyhow.

As a backup machine, the M2Pro Mac mini I have (base model) should do fine in its role for quite some time…

My first was one of the last PPC Minis which has all my music on.
My fourth is a mid 2012 MBP hooked up to our TV as a video recorder using EyeTV
My second is an early Intel Core Solo Mini, in our holiday home to play the EyeTV recordings
My third was a White MacBook for the odd occasion that I want to use iDVD
An M1 MBA is now my current everyday Mac.
