Official release of iOS 9 may not be tied to the release of an iPhone 6s.
The nature of a beta means that unforeseen things can come up, inviting more beta versions.
Well, same for an iPhone, until it actually becomes available.
So, the only folks who can say would be Apple - and I'm sure they are not ready to offer a public promise of date of release. It will still only be a guess at this point.

Of course the release of iOS 9 is tied to the release of the 6s and 6s+. If the whole Force Touch is true, it needs iOS 9 for it to work since iOS 8 obviously does not have FT support. (I remember seeing a while back someone finding FT support in iOS 9 code.)

The announcement event is said to be September 9th. So probably sometime that week. We'll for sure see a DP 6 and PB 4 but I doubt any more after that until it's official release.

Perhaps Apple has a build of 8.4 for the 6S. Personally I'd rather them wait till iOS 9 is actually ready so they're not shipping a dodgy product like iOS 8, and I doubt iOS 9 will be ready in a month.

All software no matter how long it takes to release will be dodgy for a very small minority. There is always the small few with issues.

I doubt apple would put specific support for an phone to be released in the fall as early as June. (8.4/Apple Music release)

DP 5 and PB 3 are super stable and will only get better in the next build (DP 6 and PB 4) and GM. People only seem to look at the complaints and judge the whole thing as bad based on that, when it's in fact solid for the majority. Besides like most companies, Apple surely has builds that are way further along than what's given to DP and PB. It will most definitely be ready for September.

Apple will absolutely release iOS 9 with the iPhone 6/6s Plus, whether it's "ready" or not. Fortunately, iOS 9 is running pretty darn smooth for a beta. Apple seems to be making leaps and bounds with each new release. I think they're able to squash bugs a lot quicker now due to the sheer volume of people that have access to the public beta. Even if only 1% of people use the feedback assistant, that's still better than it being locked behind a select few developers to find every little bug.

Apple has been releasing some half-baked garbage lately when it comes to software, but iOS 9 will absolutely be ready by iPhone season. And even if it's not 100%, it won't be the catastrophe that people like to make it seem.

Well technically iOS 9 comes out before the new iPhone.

Also I don't expect anymore betas, just the GM in September.

8 wasn't dodgy for a "small minority" it was an asbolete bloody disaster. PB 3 is quite a disaster on anything other than the latest hardware but that could just be me. For a release that is meant to improve performance, I'm not really seeing it.

But in terms of performance iOS 8 doesn't seem great.. For something that is meant to improve performance it really doesn't. The mini 2 is particularly slower.

Yes it was just a small minority. iOS 8 was never terrible for a lot of people. Just because you had a rough time or see people complaining about it on a forum does not mean it's widespread. People go to forums to fix issues/complain. And only a very small percent actually go to forums.

iOS 5 had 8 developer beta releases.
iOS 6 had 5 developer beta releases.
iOS 7 had 7 developer beta releases.
iOS 8 had 6 developer beta releases.

With an estimate of 35-40 days to go, sitting on beta 5, I'd guess that we'll see two more for a total of 7 developer beta releases for iOS 9.

I'd say releasing iOS 9 as a 'big and pworfmance oriented release' would say something about the stability of iOS 9. As would the high cash rate of iOS 8 apps compared to iOS 7 apps. As would the release of iOS 8.0.1 which took out cellular connectivity. iOS 8 is pretty widey lnown as a poor update. Never before have I seen a phone have so much jitter with its shipping OS as the iPhone 6. A

I had an iPhone 5 (bought when it released) when iOS 8 released and I never had issues with it at all. 8.0.1 never took out my cellular connectivity and never was a "jittery" mess. I upgraded to an iPhone 6 right before iOS 8.3 went to beta. And again like my iPhone 5, my 6 has had no issues and continues to have none all throughout iOS 9 beta.

That's because the cellular connectivity was a problem for the iPhone 6 not the iPhone 5. iOS 8 jitters on a lot of devices, especially the iPad Air, iPAd mini 2 and 3 and the less so on the iPhone 6. The iPhone 5 is ok under iOS 8, but still gets random issues from time to time. iOS 9 should perform at least as well as iOS 8 on pretty much all supported hardware and it definitely does not.

i guess beta 6 comes aug 12 ~ 21 & gm comes aug 31 ~ sept 9

IIRC, GM is released on the day of the Apple announcement event, so, reportedly 9/9/15. I could see beta 6 around 9/18 and possibly a beta 7 around 9/1.

Since iOS 5, the last beta was only out for 7 or 8 days before GM was released, so that is totally conceivable.

I like that. 2 more betas + a GM should clear up the remaining issues.

I don't think that we should predict the iPhone launch date based on patterns of betas. Only the first few betas are a few weeks apart, then it goes to about every 3 weeks or every month. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have a beta 6, as beta 5 seems very stable (so far), and :apple: need time to work on the final revision.

The perception that the number of people going to a forum to complain about something becomes some sort of measuring device for tech issues has to be reassessed. I've known plenty of people who are beginner to average users who after talking to them about some iPhone glitch or bug issue many times will agree and add to the conversation. No, these people don't know about or would ever visit a forum to ask or complain about things. But just because they didn't doesn't mean they don't experience the same things as those who did.

For instance a lot of my friends complained a lot about the change from iOS6 to 7 regarding the brightness, the fonts, the starkness, etc. These were not hard core users or designers, but what they would say to me was very similar to what was said in forums where "only the complainers come". For the most part these people have no time to worry about the things that bothered them or find a way to discuss them. They go about their lives wondering (or bitching!) about the quirky things and just accept them as how an iPhone works.

Because something is mentioned (or complained about) on a forum could have no bearing on how widespread that issue might be, it's just that some people have decided to talk about it and others have not.
