We're at DP 8 now ... That's Beta Release 3. I've gone back and cross checked all my seed program issues ... I had 30 of them ... Some of them operator error. Beta 3 is stable and working ... I even convinced a major peripheral supplier to generate a new driver for me ...and it works. I only have one issue remaining, buts it's a third party app that Cupertino doesn't like ... I've emailed the developer twice already ... No update yet. Bottom line ... If they turn SMS on for the Mac ... Beta 3/DP 8 could be the GM as far as I'm concerned

I think there will be one more DP release before GM.

Yep .. I think you are right. Would be great if they turned on SMS texting back on ... and would be supercalifragalisticexpealidotious if they included FaceTime in continuity in Beta 4/DP9. We'll probably see a GM midOct and full PR just a bit later??? Followed by iWatch pre-orders for Christmas ... watch Apple stock zoom past the stratosphere ...

No. That's not it.

PB3 has now reappeared in the purchases tab in the mac app store for those who redeemed codes for it.

So PB3 is available again for redownload.

Yep .. there it is again. Why would one download it again? Is it a "new and improved Public Beta 3?"

Apple make a lot of software available there for redownload.

In the case of the yosemite public betas, only 1 code could be redeemed per apple id, but to get the full installers for PB2 and PB3, the only legitimate way was to redownload through the purchases tab. So I'm glad PB3 is back there in case a PB4 is released.

And you need a full installer to make a bootable usb.

I'm fairly new to Apple after decades of MS/PC. So, pardon my abject stupidity ... but can you elaborate a bit? My system is running great ... to the best of my meager knowledge ... everything except SMS seems to working on the MAC, all the continuity and handoff pieces are working ... should I re-download PB3? I know what a bootable USB is ... but ... how do I create one with the App Store re-download? And why is it important to the PB4 release? Help.

Sometimes explanations can make confusions worse, so I apologise in advance if the following happens to do that. It probably will. (But I think technology is particularly prone to this phenomenon).

As happened with PB2 and PB3, the next PB in the purchases tab replaces the previous one. So it is important for PB3 to be there if a PB4 is released - even if you don't necessarily need to redownload PB3.

Recent disappearence of the PB3 from the purchases tab led to theorising that release of a golden master was imminent - but this was complicated by the fact that the developer previews DP1, DP5 and DP7 were still there. After several days of absence of PB3 from the purchases tab, it suddenly reappeared there with no explanation whatsoever from apple.

I made a thread on bootable usbs for yosemite public betas here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1757723/

If you installed yosemite directly from the installer without backing it up or making a bootable usb, then after installation, the installer deletes itself and you will be left with no backup of the installer. If you found this out the hard way and only subsequently feel you need to make a bootable usb, this alone will give you reason to redownload! I learned this lesson the hard way myself with Lion 10.7 and have been backing up full installers and making bootable usbs ever since. I even went back and made bootable usbs of 10.6, 10.5 and 10.4 because usbs install much faster than dvds.

I rarely need to use the usbs, but the few times I have needed them, by golly did I need them! And they did save my bacon. So although some will say it is a waste of money to spend a few dollars on a usb which you turn into a device capable of resurrecting a dead computer, that sure beats having a useless piece of hardware worth several thousand dollars!

The DP9 will be the last one. Apple devs said so themselves (read the Swift blog). No idea whether DP9 will be the Gold Master or whether the Gold Master will come after it.

Swift Has Reached 1.0 - Swift Blog - Apple Developer (2014-09-09)

> … Today is the GM date for Swift on iOS.
> We have one more GM date to go for Mac. …

That was 'we' (Swift engineers) for 'Mac'.

Since then, Apple has already seeded two more betas of OS X 10.10 – developer preview 14A361c and public beta 14A361p.

I have not seen a GM.

Still no sign of Yosemite at the page that I'm watching. It's not a particularly mysterious page :)

I think leman is confusing GMs of Swift with a GM of yosemite.

The Swift team were simply saying that an iOS-compatible GM version of Swift is ready for iOS, but not yet for yosemite.

They were not talking about a GM of yosemite.

Clarification

… DP 8 now ... That's Beta Release 3 …

Developer preview 8 (14A361c) is a beta, a pre-release, not a release.

Public beta 3 (14A361p) is a beta, a pre-release, not a release.

Whilst both builds – 14A361c and 14A361p – were seeded around the same time, we should not treat the two as equal.

Expect at least one pre-release golden master.

Maybe more than one pre-release golden master.

If the OS X Beta Program does not provide a public beta pre-release golden master: be patient.

Release

The build of a release may be greater than the build of the greatest pre-release golden master.

Should be either today or tomorrow. Chris Lattner said that we should be expecting Xcode Beta 3 any day now. So I'm assuming tomorrow will be DP9.

Possibly. But a long shot, though. They didn't stick to 10 AM Mondays when releasing Mavericks DP's... So end of the week also not very accurate, it could be any day...

I'd read a couple of geek articles promoting mid Ocober. However, PB3 seems fairly stable ... Still needs SMS to be turned on. I thought they might release a PB4, but that seems unlikely given notion of an imminent release < 3 weeks away.
