Not because it was defective, but because you just didn't like it? Im curious to know.

I had one for about 5 days, and 3 of those days it sat on my desk undisturbed. I just didn't like it at all. Anyone else?

I returned mine last Wednesday in preparation for shipment of my 3G pre-order. I miss it terribly.

So basically you didn't give it a chance?

So basically you didn't give it a chance?

I did. For webbrowsing, it didn't pale in comparison to my MB. Im not much of a gamer. And I detest ebooks. I tried, but I kept getting bored of it after 15 minutes..

I didn't start the thread to complain though, Im just curious how many other people did the same thing.

Of your three iPad-related posts, one calls it "a joke" for business use, the other mocks people for worrying about the volcano eruption affecting shipment of iPads, and then there's this one that says you left it sitting unused for three days out of five.

Did you actually buy an iPad? If so, why?

I agree with you on the volcano thing, though. Perspective gets weird sometimes.

Its a joke in regards to iwork. The program has major bugs, one of which is that it isn't even compatible with its mac version. Read Daring Fireball's review, he goes in-depth.

I bought an ipad because I wanted to give it a chance (and I did give it some face time). For me, its not a great device. I can see the potential for some people. I don't think its overall a horrible device, just for me personally.

Again, not starting the thread to bash it. Just curious who else bought one and changed their minds.

You said for web browsing. Probably not the device for you if that's all you need it for.

thanks for clearing that up detective

Got my iPad yesterday as a birthday gift from my wife.
Stayed up last night till 3am, woke up at 7am and still exploring it.
Just like the iPhone, for what it does, it does it beautifully well.

OP: Do you own an iPhone/iPod Touch or have you ever if not?

Im curious because, like you, I cannot see a real world (personal) use for the iPad and I'm struggling to justify the purchase.
I have an iPhone, don't use it anymore as I have a Nexus One now. I own a netbook so I already have a portable computer.

What was the main use you were hoping to get out of the iPad when you initially purchased it? It sounds like you were possibly instantly dissapointed in it if you only gave it a few hours use and then left it alone.

I understand that this thread is not to bash the iPad but I dissagree with what seems to be everyone else making out like everyone should have the iPad and use it like they do and anyone who dislikes it is in the wrong.
When I got my iPhone I knew I loved it instantly, I didn't have to 'give it a chance' and the same goes for my Nexus One or any other device I currently use. People are entitled to personal opinions and not everyone likes what others like.

I can understand the OP's opinions. I've had the iPad since launch day. I use it every day but the newness is starting to ware off. I'm finding now that the iPad is basically good for a quick check of e-mail, check some things on the internet, check my calendar and other basic things I can also do with my iPhone, iMac or Macbook Pro. I don't spend large amounts of time on the iPad.

I think the difference here is the way these simple tasks are accomplished. The iPad makes it easy and quick. The large screen also allows a better experience.

I'm now starting to wonder how much I will be using the iPad in a few months. Hard to say at this point but I can see the iPad being used more and my Macbook Pro and iMac getting used less.

I will be returning my 16GB Wi-Fi iPad in favor of the 32GB 3G model (I'm a Best Buy Premier Silver member which gives me 45 days). I admit I'm a bit hesitant to upgrade but I think I will still give the iPad a chance to integrate itself into my daily routines. If not, there is always e-bay. :)

This is the main strength of the iPad over a netbook. You can pick it up and you are a finger swipe away from browsing, gaming, emailing, book reading...whatever. I had a MB Pro and ended up selling it. Getting it out, booting it up, dealing with the size and weight. It just seemed like a hassle for casual use, so I sold it. This is of course not mentioning the fact that it only had wifi, as I don't have nor want to invest in an air card.

I'm kind of confused about this entire thread. I'm not sure who spends hundreds of dollars on a device, only to use it a couple of times and take the hit on a return. I've been to the Apple store/Best Buy a few times, to ensure that I like the device and that it could integrate into my daily life, before making a purchase. I would surmise that everyone does this to ensure a purchase, but perhaps not.

Do you think those who returned it would be on these iPad forums?

+1

Those who returned it probably never knew about or will ever know about Macrumors.

I thought about returning mine. I gave some thought to pre-ordering Avatar so it would be all downloaded around midnight tonight. Then I saw how much disk space these iTunes movies take up. On a device the size of the iPad, I've watched many dvd's at 480p. I'd much rather pick up the DVD and rip it myself to 480p and have it take up about a gig rather than the several gig the iTunes version would need. Another movie I wouldn't mind having on my iPad is the LOTR trilogy, but at 8 gig, they would just about wipe me out. So I gave some thought to returning my 16 gig model to get a 64 gig.

There are some things I'm not happy about, but I choose to live with them so I can walk around with such a small "almost a real computer."

The reason I didn't take mine back is I was too busy. I had car trouble Thursday, Friday and Saturday and had to drive 500 miles Sunday so that was my priority. I even opened a support ticket with Apple and let it die because I didn't even have time to get on the phone with them. I wanted to complain about sync randomly deleting my apps. Perhaps I will get time during this week. And I'll either have to learn to live with "only" 16 gig or I'll have to sell my iPad on ebay (likely for a profit) to get a larger one (or a 3G one).

I did, but...

It wasn't planned that way, I just found myself needing to connect, but no WiFi around. Looking forward to the 3G. Even if I don't use it all the time, at least it'll be capable.

I am actually finishing up my Masters degree in computer science and 10 of us went out and bought them and only 3 of us have them still. And out of the 3, 2 of them had to be sent back to apple for replacements due to issues. Not to offend anyone, but some people just don't like them. I love mine, but don't get me wrong if this one does not work right then I will be returning it for a refund until they figure out these issues. It will be here today, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

What have been the issues so far? I haven't read/seen any but I'd like to know so I can look out for them in case I need to exchange as well.

Mine personally would not keep a consistent signal or would lose the wireless signal completely. Same with the other guys I believe although his was way worse than mine. We both tried ours on several networks using different routers and had no luck with any of them. It's just a software issue or maybe apple is taking power away from the antenna to make the battery last 10 hours as they claim, or the wireless card was defective. We really don't know, we have some theories but apple will address this issue soon hopefully.

I have an iphone, Im an avid Jailbreaker (which may be part of the reason I was underwhelmed with the ipad).

I was hoping to use it for web browsing and possibly ebooks (I tried, but I love paper so much!). And games, of course. I was instantly dissapointed. Actually, I didn't think I was going to like it but I bought it hoping that ipad mania would infect me and it did not.

I can totally see how the ipad is awesome for some. But this "you don't like the ipad? You are doing it wrong then! EVERYONE LIKES THE IPAD" business has got to stop.

Did you all return them due to them not working right? Or did some of you just not like em?

No some of them were ok, but you have to remember that most programmers are pc guys so alot of them had there minds made up before the boxes were even opened. But they would never hesitate to grab one of ours to play with for awhile. Apple gives our university pretty good discounts or some of the guys probably would not have tried them at all. Hell most of them did not even have itunes to set it up.

I'm confused why anyone buys a MBP when a measly iPad can come along and replace it? lol...

But no for real... its very dumb to buy one of these things on launch day and complain a week later about how you don't like it.
