I'm thinking about getting one, but only if I feel it can replace and not always miss my other devices. I already have a dual core netbook, a Sony ereader, a MacBook Pro 13", and an iPod touch. If it can replace the netbook and ereader I can consider it. I'm more concerned about how much better an ereader is to use outside than the iPad with the glare screen.

Me? I'm looking forward to having an Apple netbook that is swift to turn on and off, that I can rough out presentation ideas on whilst in front of the telly. Maybe reading a book or making notes on. Just wish they'd get released here!

A friend of mine purchased one last week from Best Buy. I played with it for a while and didn't care for it, it's still too limited to me useful. I can start up my HP Mini netbook in 15 seconds and do everything I need with a 95% keyboard and nice screen.

She returned the iPad this past weekend. Her main complaint was sites not showing up right when she was browsing the web. I also noticed several items including how EPSN forces the user to go to their mobile version instead of their full version. And, when I checked out a few shopping sites none of them worked. I'm assuming she was referring to the same as she loves to shop online :)

That is some **** right there. I find that behavior disgusting on a social level.

the moral police are in full force on this site. are you serious? apple is marking these things up something huge, they will still make money off refurbished ipads, and you still think that is disgusting? so its ok for you to get charged a huge premium on items that are supposed to be top of the line but arent, like macbooks, way more expensive than comparable laptops, than to return something and rebuy it later?

Just an FYI: Going to ESPN.com on my iPad, it asks me to choose either the mobile site or the regular ESPN.com site. Maybe they recently added it for the iPad. It takes me to espn.go.com/?ipad and it's the normal full site.

Not at all. He gave it at most 48 whole hours.

When I first got the iPad and used it for a couple days, I felt it wasn't worth keeping because I have an iPhone and a sweet desktop pc as well as a notebook..

After a few more days it began to grow on me, and now after about 3weeks I realize how invaluable it is.

I use it at night sitting in my easy chair surfing the web. I also use it while laying in bed. It is just so easy to hold in landscape mode and use my 2 thumbs to navigate with. I had a netvook for a brief period of time but fortunately I got rid of it quick.
Is the Ipad an absolute necessity....probably not. Is it something that makes web browsing and light computer work more enjoyable.....absolutely.

I agree totally. I know someone who got the wifi model just to have one early while intending from the beginning to return it and get a 3G. He used a bs excuse saying it had wifi issues and they waived the restocking fee. Totally bull^^*t if you ask me.

Anybody who bought a wifi unit with no intention of keeping it just to trade for a 3G version is a scumbag. There is no reasoning with them on a message board because being a scumbag isn't a learned behavior, they are just born that way through genes handed down by their scumbag family tree :)

I bought a Wi-Fi thinking that I would be fine with that. I really was convinced I didn't need 3G. Then I tried using it outside my house and discovered how much I needed 3G for work. I returned it as soon as I got the chance, but I told the employee handling my return the truth. I said I needed the 3G for work and would be back to buy one when they are released. I gladly paid the restocking fee, I felt it was the least I could do considering it was a mistake that I made, not Apple.

So says the guy with pedobear as his avatar. You're probably the epitome of a scumbag.

I'm starting to have some issues with the iPad that are making me consider returning it.

Recently, I was sitting on my couch with my MBP on in the room, my iPhone in my pocket, and my iPad in hand. The MBP runs Adium, the iPad runs IM+, and the iPhone runs Beejive. I got a gchat from someone, and all 3 devices beeped/buzzed at the same time. That kind of bothered me - I mean, how many different ways do I need to be connected to the internet? I really only need one device that can be mobile, and one device to do more centralized computing (not that a 13" MBP isn't mobile, I just can't pull it out on the metro).

Another time was when I downloaded an album off the iPad. I was trying to get out the house quickly and I usually listen to my music on my iPhone on the go. Then I realized, to get the music to my iPhone, I had to sync the iPad to the MBP, then sync the iPhone to the MBP. It's just a hassle.

The iPad has a beautiful screen, and is nice and portable. And it is super fun to use. But there is absolutely nothing it does that the MBP and iPhone don't do between the two of them.

So my brain is starting to wonder, what else could I do with those $800? I don't even own a high def TV. I could go on a surf vacation with that money. There are just so many other good things to buy or spend money on, and that's making me consider the return.

Same here, sort of. In fact, I still enjoyed the wifi only model so much that I held onto it too long, missed by return window, so instead sold it to a fellow UK MacRumors member. We both win--he get's one well before the international launch at a price that I'm sure will be below what Apple charges (sold it for basically my cost minus would be restocking fee) and I will get a 3G next Friday.

i bought the wifi with all intentions of keeping it and tethering, but the netflix and abc apps are just too enticing to not get the 3g version. but, i cant see how it would be a scumbag thing to do for someone to buy a wifi, knowing they wanted to return it and get a 3g. if you think that, you have no idea how businesses work. thats why insurance was made.

possibly

I find the Ipad to be pretty limiting, i mean it is really not capable of creating anything... I use my macbook pro for graphic and website creation, photo editing (please don't argue that some $5 app is a replacement for photoshop), video editing (imovie) and music production (protools)... so the people who sold their macbook when they got the ipad were severely under utilizing their macbooks... sure its cool for watching movies and tv, internet, and email but like others have said... the novelty is wearing off.

And yeah, I also don't see why you are a scumbag if you trade your wifi version in for a 3g...whats the big deal. If you've discovered that wifi alone is too limiting, you should be able to get the other... I sorta thought apple wanted its customers to be happy with their products...
