Was having my connection drop on a belkin router. Slow speeds on an airport extreme (go figure). Best results thus far a LinkSys E3000. Still slower speeds than they should be, especially if further away. Signal icon always jumping between 1 and full bars.

My iPAD will loose its connection quite often, while 2 iPOD Touch and a Macbook will NEVER loose theirs

Anoying !!!

Sir/Madame,

Not trying to be snooty, but it's spelled "lose". "Loose" is the opposite of "tight".

Sorry...my one grammar/spelling pet peeve that is committed far too often. And you did it twice.

I find the reception generally quite poor and I don't have to move very far from my Apple Base Stations (7.5.1) to see the signal rapidly diminish and eventually drop. WiFi invariably drops when the display sleeps and apps which require a WiFi connection often complain there isn't one even when the display indicates the opposite is true. I'd like to think this will be a software fix.

Here's my story

My Apple Airport Extreme after 3 years x 24 hours of service started showing signs of aging - basically the wireless signal would intermittently drop for no reason on multiple devices (including the iPad), it was doing this for the last week, yet before that it never missed a beat. Nothing has been changed.

To test my theory, I simply removed the Ethernet cable from the router which linked to my modem, and connected it straight to my laptop via Ethernet and tried the same pages it was having trouble with wirelessly. All appeared with no issues. This immediately indicated the modem was fine and was not rebooting or losing sync to my exchange / DSLAM. So yes it was a sad day when my Apple Airport Extreme had to be decommissioned. I think 3 years without a hiccup is amazing for a router, and to imagine how much data went through it (including porn lol). The TCO (total cost of ownership) equated to about $80 a year over 3 years.

My new Airport Extreme is set to the following: WPA2 (AES) / Radio Mode 802.11a/n - 802.1b/g and my iPad has not dropped once, plus the wireless icon does not intermittently flash indicating connection failure.

My airport extreme had "Copyright 2006" and had "Apple Computer Inc." on the base of it. This gives you some idea of the age of it. So, in desperation, I had no alternative but to pick up the current apple airport extreme which is dual band and has gigabit Ethernet, from the Apple store at Chermside in Brisbane (pretty close to home). I have read reports that the iPad has connection issues with the dual band extreme routers yet mine has been working perfectly.
