I am just adding to iphoto a new smart album "2008" set to include all the pictures that I take this year. It turns out I took over 3000 pics in 2007!

How many did you take?

8097 that I haven't deleted.

9282 judging by the file names.

Not very many, considering that I have an almost 8-month old and I photographed three weddings.

But a lot more than 1892 in 2006!

Looking at my Lightroom library I've taken around 12300. Well that's the exact number of "individual"(excluding stacked copies) photos. Dang I've been busy. And I only started taking photos in March. Guess I'd better calm down this year if I want my camera to have a longer life.

Just made up a smart album to take a look.

It claims 5272, but a good chunk of these are .JPG/RAW duplicates, so I'd guess that the true number is around 3,000.

Had I not bought all my Mac's and into the wonderful world of "Apple" this year then I figure I may have only taken about 60 pics!

40,000 is my best estimate. I do this for a living, though. I'm going to work really hard this year to see if I can get that number up over 100K.

Taking over 10,000 pictures? How do you find any time to ever look at them again? Perhaps a better question to ask is how many really good pictures have you taken that you would actually want to look at again or show others?

Under 2000 for me this year :( Didnt get out as much as Id like to.
When I go on a good photo day, dedicated to shooting, I can take up to 500 pictures easy. More if I want to, or if its a particularly gorgeous day. Or less if it gets crummy out.

Out of that 2k, I kept under 100 of them.

Ill probably get 10k + this year (not all I will keep, but Ill take that many)

Not that many. 3,800, but all with an S2 IS, so I had many more that I had to delete off the camera. .

Well, out of my nearly 10,000, I deleted over 1000. 1200 or so were for one wedding that I did. I want to see about 20-30 of those again (to use as samples). Many times I have an idea for a picture and I take a series to try to get what I want. A seven month old isn't necessarily the most cooperative model in the world. So out of 10-30 pictures, I'm really trying to get one or a couple good ones. Sometimes I take pictures solely to experiment with a setting or technique. After examining the pictures to see what worked and what didn't, I don't particularly want to look at those again.

And as for how many pictures I'd want to show others? I don't think many people want to sit through slide shows they're not interested in. My relatives and some coworkers and friends like seeing pictures of my daughter, but yeah, people who don't know me and her might be interested in maybe 10 of those 4000 or so pictures, at most, only more if they are interested personally photographing babies or are otherwise baby obsessed. While I don't particularly want to look at someone's wedding whom I don't know, the couple and their family are interested in those pictures (not all of them to be sure, but hundreds.) Likewise, other people who photograph weddings or are wedding obsessed might be interested in those pics, but the average bear would find them almost completely uninteresting.

See, that's the thing. Out of 12,000 photos, I have maybe... 500 keepers? And out of those... less than 20 I'd consider "excellent".
