I imagine it really varies with your style; although certainly you're a pro I can see why you'd take so many photos. Or maybe a birder. But when I look at flickr, and all the cr*p photos people sometimes post (Aside: Sheesh, do some photo triage first, flickr people! Why are you posting blurry under-lit unrecognizable stuff on the web? ... or all 40 exposures of the exact same shot?)... sometimes I think people need to slow down and think about their shots rather than just machine-gunning the shutter and hoping.

But to answer the question - minus the stuff I've tossed, I'm sitting a touch below 800 for the year. If I had the free time I'd like to have, I might be at 2000 though; but I bet I'd actually be quite a ways under that.

2,955 pictures...had a kiddo this year, so that has bumped me up in picture numbers. I just got an Olympus E410 so this year will be way up there.

Yeh is this in reference to actual clicks or photos worth keeping?:p

My L1 is six months old and it's seen a few over 5,000. My FZ 50 which I used previously has seen 15,000 clicks last year. So that's about 20,000 in total. As for real keepers... probably less than two thousand. As long as I'm having a good time, who's counting!? My new year's resolution is to improve my shot to keeper ratio.

About 15,000 - was fortunate enough to go to places like Iceland, Ireland, UK, Germany, on top of various jobs/events. I work under the philosophy that digital film is cheap...better to get a bunch of duplicate options/angles instead of coming home and saying "too bad, if I had only moved a hair to the left and used f11" ;)

Cheers, Colin.

Hear here! Digital film rocks, lol. An 8gb card doesn't hurt any either.

See, that's the thing. Out of 12,000 photos, I have maybe... 500 keepers? And out of those... less than 20 I'd consider "excellent".

I followed the link to your flickr (in your sig). If you ask me, you have a lot more then 20 that are excellent... at least to me. :)

Wherever I hang my hat...
Maybe the question is: how many GOOD pictures have you taken? :)

Never in the 150+ years ogf photographic history have so many crap pictures been taken by so many people for so little purpose.

Me? I've had my D200 (first digital camera) for just over a year, and I've shot a lot of pix (10,000+), but I've been on a steep learning curve. I cull the second-rate pix right away, and, out of a series of pix, try to keep just the best few.

It's been an interesting year for an old snapper who wasn't sure he'd take to digital...

Well according to my D200 which I purchased in January, before it went into Nikon service beginning of December it was at 102,000+ shots with the shutter still going, and my D300 already has over 3000. As well I also used a D2H which I inturn sold to get the D300, which I took about 2000 shots with.

Also using loaners during some sporting events I would have to say I probably took around 120,000 photos.

As for how many good to great photos I would say a 20000 or so, as i progressed through the year. Most of the shots are for sporting events and are meant to sell to parents so there are a lot of non-great photos according to me. Near the end of the year though I started shooting for a local daily as well as another company and I really stepped up my good to great keepers.

I have a lot of video from when my daughter was little. Almost all of it is her NOT doing whatever cute thing she was doing 20 seconds before, but just crawling towards the camera...

Yup, that seems to be my situation just about ever time!

8734 photos, although I'm sure I've deleted a few over the year.

How many good photos? Probably far, far less. I'm going to weed out some of the not so good ones.

Most of my photos have been documenting a construction project, and it's really cool seeing how things change in the course of a year.

Now that I'm done with school, I may not be taking as many photos, but who knows.

nah, 4,699. :p

But I was shooting mostly film this year, and I don't scan that, so yeah, probably closer to 6,000.

Hm. Hard to make a good estimate in terms of "good/great" shots, and I just got my Canon XTi for Christmas less than a few weeks ago. Still, iPhoto tells me about 5000 kept.

Within the span from Christmas to now, the file-numbering of my XTi tells me about 3,000 shots taken in total on that body.

However, I'm beginning to shoot in RAW and I'll need much more space than my poor Macbook can have stuffed into it affordably. 10MP RAW shots are no friend to hard drives. :(

3500 Keepers. Only went on one trip this year and I spent way too much time in the office. I'm normally closer to 8000 a year when I'm traveling around for work or vacation.

Total photos are in excess of 34,000

The rough breakdown looks like this..

Locations:

USA: 15,000
Architecture: 5000
Landscape: 7000
Abstract / Art: 3000

England: 6000
Architecture: 2000
Landscape: 3000
Abstract / Art: 1000

Wales: 4000
Architecture: 1000
Landscape: 2500
Abstract / Art: 500

Spain: 9000
Architecture: 4000
Landscape: 4000
Abstract / Art: 1000

Amount of keepers? Not too many. Maybe, 1000 images in total. Sure, they're ALL good photos but, only 1000 are REALLY good. Of those 1000 images, I'll list 200 for stock and 20 or so for Private LE sales.

As a side-note: I just completed my first year shooting with a Pentax digital system. The K10D has performed extremely well for me. Most notable are it's dynamic range in landscape photos. The images have a very nice and have a unique look to them.
