How many times have you turned your iPad off?

Completely off, leaving the screen on 24/7 would be kinda ridiculous

just pressing the power button would put the screen on black too. The flight attendants knows the difference between putting the ipad completely off (with slide->off) and sleep (pressing the power button shortly)?

If that was a question, than yes they do know the difference, plus I like being a good citizen and following the rules

Around 3. One time when I did it basically reset and I had to retore it so I am gonna avoid that for a while until I can bother to figure out why. No problems otherwise.

I've only had mine a week but I turned mine off for the first 2 times this weekend. First time was out in the middle of nowhere at a scuba dive site (ATT had no signal at all anyway -- my Verizon Droid had 3 bars though)

Second time was outside at the pool. My iPad naturally got pretty hot thanks to the sun so that didn't last long at all.

I've had mine for about 6 weeks and I've only turned it off 2x. I would assume that most of the folks who've never turned theirs off newer owners.
