Normally I wait it out 3-5 months before proceeding to upgrade to a new OSX. And when upgrading, I keep a cloned copy of my existing OS boot drive so I could easily revert back to the old OS version in case of problems with the new OS. It’s also best to do some research on any problems before upgrading to get to know the new OS better.

I wouldn't wanna use Forbes as a source for any objective reporting about Apple. I Think if Tim Cook gave away free iPhones to all of us they would spin in it in something negative.

I always thought Forbes was a good magazine/website, until i started using Apple products.

K thx bye. Don't let the communist door hit you on the way out.
What's the point in being so rude. Apple has taken away much of the privacy and security options we have had in the past for a more streamlined, but less robust security settings panel. They are not wrong about that.

wait, they've taken away options? but 'they're not wrong'?? most people here seem to think they've made privacy & security both more robust, and less streamlined.

plus... rude? how does communism factor into anything?

I'm a game developer and let's say I want to install one of my games on my computer. I can no longer go into security and change to the setting that says allow all installs, because that option is no longer there. Now I have to try to install one of my apps, get denied by security, go into settings/security, and click open. That is LESS streamlined than before.

I tried to update but, after taking more than 90 minutes to download it,? ? I tried to put it on here but it said *Not formatted as APFS?*So perhaps i want bother with it I don,t have an iPhone or Apple TV or any TV for that mater or want one;)I don,t have any watch either. Or ipad .it seems most of the updates are about the things above.
How can you format a hard drive that you are using for Mac HD?
I never had that problem before when updating to a new OS ;)
I doubt if anyone else on here does not have one or more of the above.

I'm surprised that you jumped in so quickly and upgraded.

Most people I know wait to upgrade since there always seems to be issues when Apple releases a new MacOS.

you have to read your own post... before posting. you said it was MORE streamlined...

have you tried control-clicking on an app installer that doesn't automatically open? then click open, and all should be well... this has been around for some time.

K thx bye. Don't let the communist door hit you on the way out.

What I find interesting is that people are happy to give up all their freedom in order not to be called "commies". Makes me wonder just how easy it is to manipulate people?

For those who was not aware of this, it is the Communist Party that actually caused the collapse of the Soviet Union and thus propped up the West. I was living in the times when truckloads of food were destroyed in order to create artificial food shortage in a country which was/is the richest as far as resources go.

As far as I am concerned the only negative connotation of the word "commie" comes from the fact that Communist Party betrayed their country, their people and ultimately all their allies around the world.

& maybe we can get back on track about discussing catalina? instead of discussing the use (& misuse) of political & social concepts...

i don't generally understand why people don't move forward with an OS, but i do understand the need to have one's mac work; that should always be priority. but sometimes, worth getting help first with an issue... hence forums like this one.

Catalina is great even on a MacBook5,1 but I will definitely wait until later releases as with Mojave 10.14.5 a lot of things started to work OOB even on unsupported Macs.
