Base model in the UK is £4,899.00 - which converts to $6,787

Base model in the US is $4,999.00 - which converts to £3,607

That's a massive £1300 ($1800) difference!!!

Anyway my question is how much do you folks in the US pay for a base model iMac Pro once you add tax?

I think you should jump on a plane to NY and pickup the iMac Pro base from Microcenter for $3999, or maybe $4400 after taxes and fly home.

Wow - that's £3,175!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately as it's not a laptop we would need to pay 20% tax (I think) ..although that would only take it up to £3,810.

To add insult to your injury.... The Microcenter here in the US has the base model iMac Pro on sale for $3999.00. :D
Microcenter?
Just to rub it in, I bought the base iMac Pro last weekend for $3999 USD/£2885 :)

That's a good deal - and it shows, that that's how much Apple CAN sell it for (and how much it's really worth).

American prices don’t have their version of VAT added on, so it’s a bit deceptive.

It’s a bit like eating out in the US. Tipping is mandatory over there so menu prices are deceptive too.

Why can’t they just add the VAT and mandatory tip to the advertised price? Because that’s the American way. Under exaggerate when it suits, and over exaggerate when it suits too.

It's a great store. The biggest deals are usually in-store only, but they have great prices on lots of things. It might be worth a pilgrimage if you're shopping for the IMP.

I wonder if one flew from the UK to the US to buy one, what the net price would be including travel expenses. If it's even a consideration, that's unfortunate.

I feel for you, but your country's taxes are an issue for your country and nobody else. (I know you're not accusing anybody.) In your case, I would definitely fly over here, buy one, and then head back. One R/T flight, two Uber rides, and one night in a hotel...

Would there be any issues with customs, or could you claim it as a travel computer like a laptop? Warranty coverage might be another thing to check.

I can't imagine stowing a brand new iMac Pro in Airline luggage - because you definitely are not going to be able take that monster in the cabin with you. The iMac Pro and box weighs around 32 LBs and would be too large to stow above or under an airline seat.

[doublepost=1516504150][/doublepost]Don’t know if it’s much comfort to UK customers but in Australia the iMac Pro starts at A$7,299.00

American prices are ex VAT but British prices include the whopping 20% VAT. That's part of the reason.

In Hong Kong it's HKD38,888 ~USD4,985 with no sales tax. If you're flying on a plane to get it better fly here lol.

But nothing can beat the Microcenter's $3,999 price. I wish I lived in the States now.

Right, we know what our tax rate is locally and we don’t have a national tax on goods like Europe. Nothing deceptive about it.

I’ve checked a factory packaged iMac as luggage before. The box is super sturdy and the iMac is well protected.

The factory packed iMac is packaged in two boxes: The outer thick sturdy cardboard box and the inner show box which has the foam packing protecting the display. I still would not trust that to baggage handlers. If you got one safely from point a to point b that way, consider yourself lucky.

Find a friend in USA to purchase your iMP and then take the cheapest R/T trip to meet your friend who will give you an official gift bill of sale for a $1. Then take care of your friend with a warm hand shake and be on your way with your gifted-used iMP. Good luck.

And those two boxes are surprisingly tough. A big difference now though is the iMac Pro is no longer surrounded by styrofoam. It is now surrounded by a molded sturdy paper-based product. At any rate, you should see the handling mishaps that take place at UPS. They are not much different then the airlines. Apple packaged them tough and they can survive some pretty nasty falls.

Regardless, I understand your concerns. The ideal way to travel is to put the iMac Pro in its box and then place that box into a Pelican case with foam. This will put it over the 50-pound weight limit for standard luggage, but it would be nearly indestructible.

But the new VESA iMac Pro Kit as well, with that you can disassemble the stand as well. You don't need it but would make it easier to carry for you.

I was also thinking to bring it with me from US to Turkey, but eventually decided it's not worth it (with the taxes and co) Instead I've bought it here from Turkey. Good luck and let us know if you decide to ship it.
