How much do you pay for your cable and internet?

TOO much. $200 for TV and internet (ATT U-Verse).
60Mbps
Ouch!

Is ATT your only option?

I pay AU$60 every 42 days and i get 40 GB @300 mbps on my phone so had to disconnect home Internet plan. Very happy with the deal.

My phone is my modem and wifi so i use to connect other gadgets too @ high speed.
That seems like a really good deal for mobile, I don't think any mobile provider comes close to that price in the US, maybe with throttle "unlimited" data and not consistently (or ever) 300Mbps.

But probably not good for many people for home internet due to the 40GB cap.

My family would use up that 40GBs in about a half of a day.

Still a great deal for mobile though.

Its new plan you can leave any time too.

:eek::eek: :D

Whoooh this is very high data usage.
Not really with 4K streaming.

For example, one 4K Netflix stream can use a little more than 7GB per hour. Just one person alone would use the 40GB of data in about 5-6 hours of streaming.

So, if you have a family of streamers, along with all the other data being used, 40GBs wouldn't last long.

Even with 1080p streaming, my family used about 700-900GB per month. With 4k, it has gone up to about 1200-1400GB a month.

I believe Healer lives in Australia, where they nickle and dime customers on bandwidth and speed, among many other "luxuries." According to our network page, in the last 8 days alone our household has used 295.89 GB download and roughly 10 GB upload.

We've been watching more cable and less streaming. I wish I had more data but lost it due to accidentally unplugging the network gear.

I remember my first phone plan was 20 MG

You are right in certain ways but at least we don't get this....

Like they do in US or UK :)

East coast accent. That has to be really old though. These days customer support is handled by people named Paul whose real name is Rajiv or some other name and is, according to him, from Texas. Okay...

I once had to call Rockstar Games back in the day to work out a registration issue and spoke with an English woman. I thought that was bizarre as most companies had been relying on Indian or Philippines tech support for several years by that point. I have no problems with those people, but if there's a heavy accent, it makes things complicated.

I wasn't referring to the accent or foreign call center, i was refering to the very poor service and carelessness by the western companies.

HA.. . what luxuries? NBN is crap.. Or are you talking about the choice of mobile carriers.?

Besides going all Netflix and such, yes.
And, we just moved, and again, ATT is the only provider. Albeit, reduced the bill somewhat...

The only options my neighborhood has is ATT DSL 50Mbps for $55 or Spectrum cable.
I went with their Gig option, so advertised 940 down, 40 up (c'mon not even a measly 100 up) but that costs me just over $100 after taxes/fees/etc and it was a plain and simple want that I have the ability to get.

My UniFi wifi setup will give me a good 650+ on most WiFi devices and my main desktop will pull the 900+ and 40-44 up, hardwired.

If ATT ever moves fiber in, I'll probably jump on that real quick.
I do quite a bit of work from home, remotely connecting to various locations, uploading to several and a higher upload is slightly more important for my use case than download speed.

Just to give a more global perspective on this - I'm in Denmark and I pay $41.15 for 50/50Mbps internet. Currency converted.

What I find interesting here though, is that you talk about how the prices go up after you've been with the same provider for some time - In my case the opposite happens. The longer you're a customer with the same company, the cheaper they make it. They of course also have signup deals to sweeten the deal for brand new customers, but after a long enough while the retention deals are better than the new customer deals
[doublepost=1564940958][/doublepost]Thats the differance between you and me in the uk.The longer your with a company the less than think of you.I think Denmark and Germany think more of you than in the uk.We are a class driven society here in the uk,:mad:Everyone is equal where you are and in Germany.

Well it's not quite entirely equal, though probably a fair bit morethan the UK. But even then, do you think Michael Heseltine gets cheaper internet? :p

Also, I'll add that since the post you quoted, my internet speeds are now 120/80 for the same price as before.

I pay $55/month for AT&T fiber, 1000Mbs.
Here's my speed on my 2013 MBA on wifi:

I just received my first ATT bill, after moving.
For gigabit, 1000MBs, it is $80 a month. And, considering ATT said, “When you move, your bill will remain the same...”

Believe nothing people!

I can get 100MBs for $50. But, hmm, who wants that, after having gigabit? Ugh...!?!

What were you paying prior to moving?

If it was me and based off of my family internet needs, I'd go with the cheaper 100 Mbps.

I posted about this a few times, many times people tend to overpay for Internet speed that they would hardly or ever utilize.

I lot of people in the area I live in pay for gigabit internet that they use for mainly Netflix, YouTube, web browsing. The ISPs upsell them using false logic like "how many devices do you have in your home?" and "does anyone in your family play nline video games?".

The slower than Gigabit speeds would be unnoticed by majority users, imo.

I was paying $52 for internet, and I believe it was 45Mbps.
This consist of 3 telly’s, all HD (6MB per telly), then a plethora of Nest cameras and a doorbell.

By the end of the month, I will more than likely switch to the 100Mbps or 300Mbps. Still researching...

Just an FYI for any veterans out there, AT&T offers $

That all depends. The slower ones have a data cap with some ISP's, like AT&T. Having 4K, it will use up a lot of data. Working from home occasionally, the higher bandwidth is much appreciated. And if you are a veteran, AT&T offers a discount.

So previously I was paying $69/month for 200Mbps with cable internet. I pay less now for faster speed. Can't beat that.

Of course if there is a data cap, or other non-bandwidth related aspects, they should be considered.

But, just considering price and speed alone, there are many people overpaying ISPs for speeds that the would use.

In my area, there are a lot of people paying for Gigabit speeds that they will never utilize. They could get a cheaper plan that is more appropriate for their internet needs, but they think they need the fastest speeds available because of the ISPs’ advertising and suggestions based off of number of devices.

I am a Veteran, but I do not have AT&T in my area for ISP. I have Verizon FiOS and Comcast. A good thing about my area is that neither ISP has a data-cap on any of their internet tiers.
