Carrier: Verizon

Lines: 2 smartphones, 1 on contract 1 off contract

Data allotment: 10GB shared

Minutes/messages allotment: Unlimited

Features: hotspot, hd voice, 25gb verizon cloud, nfl stuff, free unlimited international texting as long as you're in US

Promotions/discounts: 2gb promotional data until February, 10% data discount, discount on my contract line from 40$ to 20$ until contract expires

Total monthly bill including tax: ~$120

We barely go over 5gb total because wifi is usually available. I seemed to get random promotions whenever I called Verizon to ask questions about deals.

Carrier: M Budget Mobile (MVNO on Swisscom)

Lines: 1 smartphone 1 prepaid dumb phone

Data allotment: 1GB on 3G with maximal 42Mbps down and 4Mbps up

Minutes/messages allotment: 500 Minutes talk to mobile, fixnet and most important country's like USA, GB, France or Germany included. (after 500 Minutes it costs CHF 0.10 per Minute, that's about 10 Cent/Min.) Incoming calls are free.

Dumb phone costs CHF 0.28 per minute (that's about 28 US cent) to fixnet in Switzerland and Europe. Text message is CHF 0.10 (that's about 10 US cents) each. Incoming calls are free.

Features: hotspot, free unlimited calling to other M Budget Mobile clients (as long as you're in Switzerland) No throttling of data but after eating up my included data it costs CHF 0.10 per MB up to CHF 5.00 per day. So maximal bill for Data in Switzerland would be CHF 150.00 per month.
Dumb phone ha no special features.

Promotions/discounts: none

Total monthly bill including tax: ~CHF 30.10 (monthly price is CHF 29.00 and some bucks for calling to service numbers or contacting the mailbox (no virtual voice mail included)). I usually using less than 800MB of data. The costs from my wife's prepaid phone are only a few Rappen (cents) per Month.

Mostly we are using our fixnet phone for outgoing calls which allows unlimited calling to swiss fixnet and swiss mobile phones. Most calls to fixnet numbers in Europe and North America are unlimited too.

unlimited data, 3GB for 15 Euro a month
phone calls are 9 cent per minute, i could add unlimited calls for 9€ but i barely make any calls so its cheaper for me to simply pay by the minute

we dont have the "lines" thing here so everyone in my family just gets their own contract or prepaid plan

7,99 € including
  • 2 GB LTE
  • 100 Minutes
  • 100 SMS
Probably the cheapest contract I ever had and quite happy with it.

I think it would be interesting to revisit:

1. Who your carrier is: Verizon
2. How many lines you have: 2
3. Your minutes/texts allotment: Unlimited
4. Your data allotment: 12
5. What other features included: insurance, tethering, unlimited international texting, 25gb free cloud, device payments on both phones
6. What promotions/discounts you receive: 5% discount
7. What your TOTAL monthly bill is (taxes & fees included): $161
