I haven’t tried iOS 12 on it yet. I am commenting with respect to iOS 11. iOS 12 has breathed some life into the 7 Plus so it should do the Air 2 but I don’t think it will go back to pre iOS 10 performance.

My youngest uses the iOS air running on iOS 11 and I am impressed by how smooth/fast it seems to be especially compared to the old iPad 2 she used to use.

Now that iPad is “windows virus riddled” slow.
[doublepost=1532023134][/doublepost]Aside from Apple Pencil support, overall an iPad Air 2 + belkin qode Pro Keyboard set up is the best/most reliable iPad setup I’ve ever used.

There was virtually no difference in performance on my iPad Air 2 for either iOS 10 or iOS 11. Both ran very well with little to no hiccups. iOS 12 though makes my iPad feel like it was brand new.
This makes me excited for my Ipad Air.. Don't really want to upgrade, but it's starting to show it's age. I think I'll hold off upgrading as IOS12 should make it snappier, it currently does everything I want albeit slowly

As others have said, I think it will at least get iOS 13, will likely get iOS 14. The question is, when will it be heavily impacted by the nature of iOS updates? I have tried - extremely briefly, one day, for only 10 minutes - an Air 2 on iOS 11, and at first glance, didn't seem slow at all - and, actually, it appeared (at least to me) exactly the same performance-wise - when compared to my 9.7 iPad Pro on iOS 9.
Again, there is no use if it gets iOS 15 but it is severely impacted by it - as we have seen, for example, in the iPod Touch 5G, which performs incredibly poorly.

The iPad air 2 is the best iPad I've had so far in term of pricing vs quality. When the air 2 came out it was a beast performance wise at a price of a regular iPad (no "pro" iPad at that time) and 4 year later, its still performing very well. I can easily see 2 or 3 more iOS update on it. I think its the new iPad 2 for Apple. Its even mostly in par with the basic iPad 2017-18 IMO so, still a very good tablet.

Air 2 may or may not get iOS 13. And unlikely that it will get iOS 14 regardless.

My Air 2 on iOS 12B3 is rock solid. Performance is well improved and it’s a beta. The only issue I have is a 3.5 year old battery at 84% health.

Then again, you always say performance is bad on every thing so I’m not really surprised.
My Air 2 is running brilliantly on 12DB4 as well.

I do have battery issues too, though. It is prone to crashing under load when the battery percentage gets below 30%. How did you determine the 84% number? I have the Battery Health indicator in Settings on my iPhone 7 (currently 88%), but not on my Air 2.

Coconut Battery via Mac. It’s the only way to reliable determine battery health and cycle count. It’s even more accurate that Battery Health from Apple. It uses a real-time reading to determine battery health, while Apple’s tools use a 2 week average.

Just make sure you take a reading with coconut when the battery is fully charged; battery health fluctuates a lot under load, temperature change and charging.

My iPad Air is running brilliantly on the iOS12 betas. Better than iOS11.

iPad Air 2 is deffo getting iOS 13 where it will be rendered unusable because Apple will add Transparency over transparency over transparency. This is classic trick to outdate the old devices.

Considering the iPad Air is only slightly slowed by those effects and the Air 2 has over 10x more graphical horsepower I’d say that isn’t going to happen.

Thank you. Coconut Battery basically confirms that the battery in my Air 2 is shot.

For my Iphone 7, it's 88.9% reading is consistent with the iOS Battery Health indicator's 88%.
