there’s plenty of improvements , bells and whistles and features that Apple can add
Will they be as dramatic as in previous years?? ..........that’s the question

But there will always be something new
Perhaps not useful for everybody but new

As much as I appreciate upgrading to an iPhone every year, I have become quite numb to all the features, although I do really appreciate the camera, as it does take amazing quality photos. But I do await the day where the Apple Watch _could_ possibly replace the iPhone, if it ever supersedes that point.
Apart from the camera/battery life I’m not really sure of what they could do hardware wise to improve the phone. The phone works amazingly well at the moment and excels in everything it does.

Get rid of the notch.
5G support when it is more available to the public.
New battery technology allowing one to replace the battery in the same manner one replaces the SIM card.
Solar charging ability.
Ability to türn on and off the phone via Face ID or Voice ID.
Ability to log how many times people tell the owner of a iPhone that Apple is doomed, and if Steve Jobs were here....
Built in phaser limited to 'set to stun' with the limited edition Star Trek series edition.

Gorilla glass needs to make truly “unbreakable” glass so I can try the caseless life without fear

i wouldn't mind having a double sim slot, 5g, better battery, maybe a phone that folds?

I don’t know that a foldable phone would be necessarily an improvement as much as that would be an entirely different device. Plus, that likely would carry an exorbitant price tag for that type of technology (Samsung is actually rumored to be developing this). I Think this type of product would be a niche product for the consumer.

Proper haptic feedback was rumored to come to phones and tablets for years but it seems nothing has come of it. While Apple's taptic engine is certainly much better than most vibration motors, it's still far away from being able to feel things like buttons on screen. This would be a game-changer for touch screen devices because the primary issue with them is not having any immediate feedback when typing on a virtual keyboard for example whereas on a real keyboard you can feel the keys just resting your fingers on them.

I also would love to see a 120+ Hz screen for less motion blur and more immediate response and FaceID that works regardless of orientation. Obviously also the notch to be gone.

Stronger materials would be nice especially since the phones are now incredibly expensive to repair if you don't pay extra for AppleCare on top of one of the most expensive phones on the market. IMO making glass stronger can only go so far, I would rather see them opt for a different material at least for the back. Insisting on glass or aluminium is stupid and only about how the phone looks rather than how it works for real world use.

Release the smart battery case for the Max and I’ll be good for a few years.

As far as upgrades go:

-ceramic frame
-Fingerprint in that unused / useless Apple logo
-significantly better battery life
-higher resolution screen

No idea, but I’m usually pleasantly surprised with what apple comes out with :).

How about put light into the Apple Logo :D

Incremental upgrades every year, folks. Always the case.

I'm pretty much set on the opinion that I will keep my 6s for another 2+ years. I bought this phone in Sept 2015 and while OLED has finally come to the iphone, the high price tag (over $1100 for the mid-storage model phone) is way more than I'm willing to spend.

And if Apple does only do a 1 year run on the current X (and replaces it again the following year w/o just allowing people to buy it cheaper, etc)...I may elect to keep this 6s even longer. All my family is thrifty that way.

These phone need

1. better battery life or apple smart battery cases
2. Face and Touch ID baked into the OS. Can be virtual home button I don't care. I wear a cpap and if my phone goes off its a PITA to unlock.
