From the sound of what you will be running on your imac, stock RAM should be more than enough. I don't think any amount of safari tabs are going to slow you down.

On the other hand, more memory certainly doesn't hurt anything and it's a good feeling to have plenty of room to breath of you ever do want to run something more extensive like parallels or something.

This is my first post on the MacRumors forums (long time listener...) and in fact my first post on any forum at all, so please excuse any mistakes or faux pas.

I was just looking at RAM on both the UK and USA Crucial sites, and when I went through their helpful Mac guide for a
new 2.4GHz 20" iMac it displayed their 'good' 'better' and 'best' options for RAM configurations: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/lis... Intel Core 2 Duo (20-inch)&pl=Apple&cat=RAM#

I noticed that the RAM included with their 'better' option was different and has
800 MHz instead of 677. Is there any good reason for that? I am no expert, but I read in the MacRumor guide that no iMac can make use of any higher than 677. So is it just a case of greedy money-making? It just surprised me as many people on here seem to hold Crucial in high regard.

Even though the iMac system bus is 800MHz, the memory bus is 667MHz and can't be upwardly adjusted. So, RAM clocked at 800MHz will still only run at 667MHz in the current iMacs.

Don't waste money on something you can't make use of!

Thank you, that's what I thought. So it 'is' just a money making scam on Crucial's part. Imagine that, a respected company liked by the users of this forum trying to rob people by selling expensive RAM...

2GB vs 4GB, i make movies, surf the net, edit photos, make websites, listen to music, Garageband, and will have parallels do play PC games, which is better for me? me problem is playling flight simulator X, it needs alot of memory, so if the graphics card has 256MB, and 512MB is required for gaming, after it takes up the video card memory, will it start to take from the regular ram? help me out on this, so answer that question, and tell me if i shud have a 2 or 4GB, also, 2.4 or 2.8Ghz, sorry if ur confused!!!
