48 out of 64GB on an iPhone X here. I got the base model because the deal was too good to pass up. I survived on 64GB for 5 years, but it did get cramped at times.

I'm interested in upgrading to the 15. If I do, I'm thinking the 256GB level this time... if I get around to it. I'm incredibly lazy about upgrading. Hardware doesn't excite me so upgrading is just more work to do.

I'm long past due so I gotta bite the bullet at some point and just put an order in.
iPhone X here too and it's been a great phone for 5+years. Going to upgrade to a 512gb 15 Pro max around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Should be a a nice upgrade with noticeable improvements in every category

I'm using 184 out of 512. Part of me wonders if I can get away with getting only the 256gb iPhone 15 since the majority of my space used is offline music, but 5G coverage isn't great by me.

You all are amazing with the smaller storage phones. How do you do it? Maybe its due to how many older photos I have on my phone.
"Optimize Photos" can make a huge difference. I see you have it turned off. The full resolution is stored in iCloud and optimized versions are stored on your device. You can still download the full resolution if needed.

I do not need or care to store thousands of full 12+MP (3024px x4032px) photos on my phone when the display is only 2-3MP (1170px x 2532px), especially when I'll rarely go back and look at them all. I've never had any issues zooming in to see more detail either. I'm pretty sure it downloads the full resolution as you view them, and keeps the full resolution version locally for the ones you view recently/frequently.

Currently, 55Gb of 128Gb.
Learned well over the years to keep proper file management, backup files to the PC then remove unnecessary photos and update media (music/audiobook/movies) files.
Don't unnecessarily waste add. money for online storage when it's cheaper to make PC archive backups and just enjoy life.

53.2 of 64 Gb. I will probably go with the base storage on the 15 when we get new phones. Unless the Pro Max is too big and I go with a regular Pro. Then I'll bump up a storage level. What I did with the 6s. Wife went with the Plus and I went with the regular but the next storage level up. We'll see.

Also, holy crap OP, offload your photos so you don't lose them.
Not him. But what do you mean? I don’t have optimization turned on and I have almost 12k photos. I can go onto iCloud and view the pictures and videos. How would they get lost?

106.7 GB / 256 GB used.

I don’t optimize photos on my main phone since that’s one of my local redundant copies. I could probably get away with 128 GB but that’s a bit too small for comfort.

I did buy a 64GB iPhone SE3 for $150 for an overseas trip. Setup as new with bare minimum of apps and optimized photos. It will be interesting to see how well 64GB would work (40GB available right now) since that’s likely going to be my primary camera during the trip (mainly photos, very few videos). Considering I’ve only used 46.7GB after 16 years of iPhone usage, I expect it’ll be fine.

Went from a 128GB to a 64GB model, currently using 45GB nad not missing bigger storage at all.
I take photos and videos quite frequently, but offloading max size to iCloud saves A TON of storage. Can't remember I ever got a notification I'm running out of storage in 4 years since I got a new phone.

Some of us don't use iCloud and even if I had it, I'd still have a backup locally of all my photos. Having 700 Gb of photos and videos on a mobile device is bonkers.

Using 50.3 of 64GB.

Top few categories:
Music 15.54GB
YouTube Music 2.34GB
Podcasts 1.57GB
Amazon Music 872.9MB
Huawei Health 852.5MB

And thanks to optimisation, only 88.3MB of photos!

On the Windows desktop, laptop and Synology NAS, my photos are just stored/named by date (too lazy to go through and categorize/sort them).

Personally, finding photos via geotags, facial recognition and machine learning on the iPad is easier for me than trying to find it on my desktop. In a pinch, this is also doable on the iPhone. I just prefer the iPad’s bigger display.

Plus, in case there’s a house fire or something (heaven forbid), I’m more likely to have my iPhone and iPad with me than the desktop/laptop. As long as the iPhone still works, I can always copy photos from the iPhone to a new PC. Then there’s also iCloud for offsite backup.

That's more like what I'm talking about. I take way too many photos to keep everything on anyone device, so I have to offload regularly and remove from device.

I need to look into getting a Synology. We have one here at work and it's phenomenal.

I set up the iPhones and iPads for my parents and aunts. They will never manually backup pics to computer so their redundant copies are pretty much iPhone+iPad (local) + iCloud (offsite). Hence, I highly recommend using iCloud to family. It’s not a proper backup solution but at least it’s something.

With that said, 128GB on the iPhone works well enough for them. Honestly, for me, too. It’s the iPad where I need 1TB (movies, TV, comics, manga).

ProRes video recording up to 4K at 60 fps with external recording

I wonder what this means

I'm pre-ordering an iPhone 15 Pro and contemplating the 256GB vs. 512GB.

I'm coming from an Android Pixel 3 with 128GB and a 12MP camera. I only upgrade my phones when they die, so figure that the new iPhone will last me 5+ years. I previously overfilled the 128GB on the Android, and had to triage a brutal cleanup and delete local music. Now with minimal local music for backroad trips the phone is storing 90GB.

The thing that worries me is that 48MP camera. I prefer to keep older photos on the phone, back up photos elsewhere (local and my cloud), and not use iCloud optimization.

It seems that 256GB can cover the majority of users like me, but I'm still considering 512GB since user behavior is begrudgingly upgradable, but phone storage is not.

125 of 256 on my 14 PM. Not sure if I’m going 256 or 512 this year.
Similar to me. I'm at 138 of 256 on my 14 PM. Have always gone with 256 but for the 512 on finance it's only an extra £8 here in the UK. Still considering....

I used to buy the highest capactiy iPhone and every year I hoped the next would have even more. I've pretty much done away with that.

I don't need a massive offline music library with lossless files anymore because Apple Music finally provides that.

I'm OK with photos being stored on the cloud. I wouldn't even care if 95% of them were lost forever.

I download a good amount of games, most of which I never play, so I'm OK with deleting most of them.

I've pretty much done a 180 when it comes to storing things on the phone. I had hoped for 1TB forever and now I'm down to a 256GB model. I never thought I'd see the day.

On the Eye Phone, 38.6gb of 128. All of my photos and videos are on the iPad and in the cloud (plus backups). The iPad is at 111.8 used out of 256.
