To all you iPad owners with 64, 128, 256 GB storage: How much of that do you actually really use on a daily basis and how do you get all the data onto the device?

Depends. It varies from 20MB to 10GB per day depending on what I'm doing.

For me, the point of having large capacity is not needing to manage content frequently and having a good selection of material to choose from when there's no fast, reliable, inexpensive internet connection. I find having to swap out content even weekly very annoying.

We're all different - some have extensive libraries of media on their devices while others may not do much media consumption at all or rely on streaming services instead. Others may load a lot of reference material onto their devices or files of other types etc.

Personally I don't need the 256GB that I got on my IPP but like rui no onna I wanted the peace of mind that I had the space if I needed it. Currently I'm only using about 48GB of storage. I rely on streaming and cloud storage, and have some cloud storage folders synced to my device (paid feature on Dropbox for example). Similarly I have some music playlists stored on my device as well (again paid feature on Google Play Music and Spotify). At the same time while I'm only using a fraction of the 256GB available on my device, the next step down was a 64GB IPP model and I think I'd feel cramped on that. There are times when I travel where I'll load several movies or seasons of TV shows onto my device for offline viewing and at that point I'd likely be at capacity or out of space on the 64GB model.

I think 128GB is the right size for me and a lot of people....

Which is why Apple only offer 64GB and 256GB to push us up to that next level!

I agree that 128GB would be a comfortable fit for most of us. However, 64GB is workable if you always carry an iPhone and divide up the workload instead of duplicating everything on both devices. Heck, even 32GB would work with a little planning, as many happy owners of the 2018/2107 iPad deals are finding out.

During my recent iPad buying/returning/pondering frenzy, I had 128, 256, 32, and 64GB models. For me, the baseline works fine and I’m willing to adapt.

Can't always divvy up the workload between phone and tablet. Majority (~80-90%) of my iPad's storage usage is comics and manga. Kinda useless to have those on iPhone.

Believe it or not, 32gb is more than I need. I don’t think I ever exceeded 10gb. IOS does such a good job of managing storage. Everything is pretty much in the cloud or on my Mac via WiFi.

But then, I never take my iPad outside the house. But for someone who needs their data/entertainment while traveling, this might not work well for them.

I have Dropbox synced to documents on my ios devices (essentially downloading their contents to my devices). That’s more than 20 gb of files already. 128 is the sweet spot for my iPad Pro (for now).

How much storage is useful is really up to the user, how they use their iPad, i.e., like to store files (movies, books, documents, photos) predomanently on board or in the cloud, how many apps they *really* use vs being an app pack rat, and, of course, being able to keep 10-15% free as cache and for updates.

I have two iPads, a mini 4 and an 12.9" iPP (2017). The mini I use only for web browsing and as a HomeKit remote. It's 128GB only because that's the only one Apple makes. If it was 64GB it would still be overkill for that use.

My iPP gets more substantive use. I store .pdfs of manuals, books, movies when I'm going out of town, and a lot of apps. 64 would not be enough for my use but 256 is overkill. Unfortunately, Apple understands this so they don't make a 12.9" 128GB model so I was "forced" to buy the 256. Still it's nice to know I have so much storage I don't even have to give a second thought to saving anything or be concerned about quickly deleting to recoup space.

Agreed, we each have our own demands, and how I use my iPad is going to be different then how others use it. There's also the the fact that we want to be sure we have a properly configured tablet for today and the future. That means perhaps configuring it for more storage for future growth.

I have a 256GB and use a lot of space. Mainly to have several movies and TV shows from my iTunes account downloaded. So when I travel, I won't worry about any internet connection for some entertainment. But other than TV/Movies, I would get away with 64GB, preferably 128GB if available just for a little breathing room and some media files.

I'm a photographer and 512gb is just about right. But needs storage management after every few months. Everybody is different. People who buy iPads whenever Apple introduces a new model don't really have much storage problems. But people who uses the same device and hardly manage their data (ie. keeping their family pics and vids in their phones as their grandkids grow up) may find they regret not getting the bigger storage option when they could have. So depending on who you are, your data management style, how deep your pockets are, how you hate the hassle of moving your files, accessibility to fast internet, how long you use your devices, where you're comfortable storing your stuff, etc. As for me, I always buy the biggest available storage. And my older devices still have good uses because of that.

128GB is probably more than enough for typical usage. Those who only use iPads for streaming content obviously can survive with much less. 512GB is probably overkill, unless you use your iPad for a lot of video stuff. Even laptops are still sold with just 128GB to 256GB SSD.

I have a 128 GB mini. About 65% of it is full. Much of that space is taken up by purchased movies from iTunes as well as some music and a few ripped movies from DVD's. I usually watch the movies on the road, especially when flying.

My 512GB is at capacity..

But I filled it with podcasts for when away from wifi, and have a few different podcasts I try from time to time.

After either buying or receiving as gifts since 2011: a 4G iPod Touch, iPad Minis 1,2, and 4, and two different iPhones (5 and 6S), my rule of thumb on storage (which has always served me well) - figure out what available storage size you think you will need when you buy it, but actually buy the next available storage size. Example - when the original Mini came out, I thought I needed only 16 GB, but I ended up getting the 32 GB model. In the long run, I ended up using the extra storage.

I would say 64GB is usually more than enough for most people. For example on my iPad I have around 20 different games, 3 full series on Netflix, all the Microsoft Office applications, around 20 different courses from skillshare and similar applications, quite a few documents offline and things like that. And with all that it takes just 48 gigabytes of space. So unless you are are an artist or edit photos or do something like that I would say 64 will be just fine for you

I use 64 with no issues as my files are all cloud based and what’s local is never more then a few gigs at most. All my media is streamed as is my music with Apple Music.

Have 128 on IPP pro 2015
Using about 30 of it
Use Dropbox, Apple Music, I Cloud
128 Is My lowest due to future proofing

I have a 256gb iPad Pro and I use the storage space for podcasts, photos, ebooks, and various notes. If I want to watch videos, shows, or movies I either use YouTube, Netflix, or Hulu.

I have a 256GB 10.5" Pro and a big chunk of the space is a cached local version of my Lightroom catalog.
