How much time do you spend in windows now? ... and after Windows7?

Because of my work and software needs I have to run windows on my Mac as well. I'm curious,

1. How much time you all spend working in Windows compared to OS X?

2. Do you think you'll spend more time in Windows after 7 is released?

3. Anyone here spending the majority of their time in Windows?

4. Anyone running 'only' windows on their Mac hardware?

I only have Mac on my computer. I am forced to use windows at work. I hate it.

Not long after I realized that everything I wanted to use my computer for worked equally well in Windows as OS X, I switched to using my desktop that I built, as it runs quieter than my Macbook Pro, and gets better FPS in WoW...

Then I refined my workflow which now works better in Windows then it did for OS X (thank you MS Office ), and I only just got my mac back from the girlfriend so I could do some editing in Final Cut...

Of course on the flip side, I basically didn't use Windows from early 2007 until about 2 months ago.

Sure, for a little while to get the experience with it, then back to OSX

When I first converted I did. Then I went Mac and rarely boot into Windows anymore except to play my games.

I get on the Windows side (the dark side) whenever I play with AutoCAD or play games like L4D. To surf the Web and all that it's mostly on OSX, such love that cool UI environment.

1. I use XP on my Macbook all day at work.

2. There's a good chance I won't go to Windows 7. In any case, I wouldn't spend more time using it than I do using XP now.

3. Guess so - about 8 hours/day in Windows, max of 4-5 in OS X. Weekdays, at least. Maybe I'll catch up in OS X on the weekend.

right now, its mostly osx, but i find myself more and more in windows 7(MSDNAA). Aside from office (access maninly) and my statistical program, i find myself REALLY liking the whole "drag the window to the corner to make it half screen" and all the other gesters available in win 7.

I REALLY wish there was a way i could do that in OSX.... thoughts?

Wait for someone to copy the feature over. I don't think it's that hard to write a program that goes If (windows is dragged to the left && mouse hits edge of screen) {
resize window
}

Although I'd be willing to bet that MS patented that idea, so you'll have to either wait for a 3rd party program to do it, or wait for some linux guys to write a crappy wannabe and port it to OS X

Is there any reason to suspect that consistent, weekly if not daily booting into windows on the mac can tax the system? Any chance it can hurt the overall lifespan of the mac itself? Battery life?

Just bought my first mac only to find out that my mba program requires software that is mac incompatible.

Any risks to constant windows booting?

Normally, there is just one application that I use which is not available for OS X, but the software company assures me they will be releasing a Mac version next year

However I am in the middle of doing a part-time web design course, and this term I am (trying to learn) learning Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET, which is only available in Windows. At least I get all the Microsoft software free through MSDN.

So right now I am spending a lot more time in Windows. I must be honest thought and say that Windows 7 Pro is a big improvement on its predecessors, though I still prefer OS X.

i used to work and play with windows since ~1990 starting with windows 3.1
but then microsoft introduced vista ...which slowed down my pc to a point where it was unbearable , so i looked for a replacement ,and installed on a separete partition linux ,
the last year i worked through nearly all linux distros i could find and was surprised how much open source programs there are,
which are good replacements ,some are even better then the equivalent programs for windows ,
so i day by day did boot less and less to windows ,
i always wanted a iMac g3/eMac for their design ,but had allways been afraid of changing the os
so i first bought a eMac a couple weeks ago and
i was so amazed about mac os X tiger and all the programms you can get and run on it and all that with far less mhz and ram then it was needed in my dell pc to run the same programs under windows ,
so i sold my dell and bought a iMac G3 600mhz ..and was even more surprised that it could handle nearly everything the emac could handle ..ok a bit slower sometimes , but it can handle most things
i still have windows , but how often do i use it ..have not used it since intsalled under q
so i guess that answers the question about how often i use windows nowadays

I spend most of my life in VS and I enjoy using it and I hope you enjoy using it for your web design. You can really produce some great stuff with it - not that i've used ASP.Net much.

To answer the original posters question, I therefore spend most of my life in the windows enviroment and I don't mind that either. I am really looking forwads to geting stuck into (or stuck in) Windows 7.

However, when I get the chance, I really enjoy using my Mac/OSX usually on a weekend. It makes a refreshing change. I have tried developong on my Mac but personally I don't like using xcode. Stuck in my ways maybe...

1. A lot more than osx

All of this would be untrue, if I didn't have so many problems to correct in windows 7.

no the only downide is that you loose a bit space on your hdd and run a operating system in a emulator which will slow it down to about the same speed as it would run on a pentium 3 with 500mhz . at least thats what they predict if you look up websites for these emulators if you can live with that ...

I cannot imagine there are any such risks. In any case I boot XP on my unibody MB every weekday morning and OS X every weekday evening, and I have been doing that for nearly a year now. Before that I did the same on a Blackbook for six months. Neither of these systems has degraded in any way.

Boot Camp is not emulation. You're running Windows on the bare hardware.

1. My computer usage is probably split 55/40/5 Mac OS 9 or X (usually X), Vista, and other (usually an Ubuntu variant) at home. Read on for school.

2. Probably not after I calm down about the changes.

3. Like I sad, about 55/40 Mac/Windows at home, but about 50/50 at school.

4. No, but I did have Bootcamp up for a few months before I got my Studio 540.

I don't know about booting, per se, because I hardly ever shut down the Mac or Windows XP running under VMware Fusion. I've been them close to 24/7 for over a year, and I haven't seen any problems.

Coincidentally, XP is much more stable on my Mac than on my ThinkPad.
