Finally I have arrived.....
I second that. Not to mention those unnecessary sound effects. I prefer tranquility for shopping online. If I like noise and hassle, I will go for a brick and mortar store. I feel Crumpler's web designer went overboard with this in a botched attempt to be unique and difference.

Yikes. I'm glad I had the sound off.

What are the movies for? The beer as barter / crumpler bags ad thing?!

In no way slick/cool/trendy/interesting. Good bags, I hear though.

I'm a web developer, and I agree with you that design really is awful :/

Regarding finding a case for your MBP, Apple Store is doing a 30% discount on the LeBag from Be-ez at the moment and I for one won't e missing it :) Very nice cases indeed if you like backpacks. Since I cycle about 10 miles a day wth my MBP I really need a backpack.

actually I think the Crumpler website is one of the best out there, not to mention they make awesome bags.

The site is fun and unexpected, and different from everything else. Screw all you main stream conformists out there! :p Plus any company that takes Beer in exchange for bags, has to be top notch!

Their site was THE reason why I did NOT buy one of their bags. I'm sure they're great and the site is "fun" enough. However, I couldn't get the information I needed when choosing a bag -- sizes, cloth material, compatibility with my computer, etc. I'm sure it's all there, but after 20 mins on the site, I gave up waiting to have it pop out at me. Too bad, I've heard really good things about the bags. I went with a R.E.load bag, custom built out of Philly, PA. Their site isn't terrifically exciting, but when buying something, I'll take solid information over entertainment anytime.

That's immediately what I thought. I had no problem finding the catalogue and checking it out either.

Site's irritating as hell... gawdawful music too...

Now, for being non-conformist... yes, I know folks love their bags... well, being non-conformist, I frankly find them bleh... not awful, but totally unappealing. For my money, YMMV, tom bihn bags are da bomb (have one, see siggy)...

http://www.tombihn.com/

There's no right or wrong in taste... one thing though: the tom bihn bags are really carefully thought out and tested for their functionality... plus awesome build quality (and no, I don't work for them, nor am I affiliated in any other way than a satisfied customer).

Like totally dude. :D I'm a huge tom bihn fan too. Actually, I guess I should start looking for a few accessories for my 15" at discounts as they go EOL.

Hmmm, a new bag, and that cool sleeve I've been eyeing. . .

Obviously the bags are so expensive to feed the web designers drug habbits...its the only logical explaination for these crimes against web design! :D

That website is annoying, but you can still figure it out okay. I liked their bags. I might get one.

Ditto. I find the site perfect for the products they're selling and the ethos of the company. In fact the site cracks me up. I wouldn't appreciate it if it was my universities library webpage but in context it's great. Their brick and mortar stores aren't too badly fitted out either :)!

I've a powerbook sleve from crumpler (school hymn) which is top quality) and I'm heading back their with my DSlite to pick up a case for it. Good quality products :).

You know first impressions matter a lot, and my first impression was "Ugh who in the heck designed this awful website!". It's an instant turnoff that automatically creates negative imagery in my mind about their bags regardless of their quality.

Same here. I went with a timbuk instead.

I'm with you. I was able to navigate just fine. Guess it's user error.

 Yes, the rest of us are morons.

I had no problem navigating the site. Finding any useful information, however, proved to be too much work. I happen to agree, the site is fun and its got some personality and flair, which is cool. But then, at least make it easy to figure out which bags hold what.

Take a look at the timbuk site. No, its not as cool looking, but its very clear which of their bags will hold what size computer.

Crumplers also struck me as being a bit more expensive for what they offered, but maybe that was just perception.

no it's not. i could easily navigate the website, found all available information.

but there is not enough information available, you need a number of extra mousclicks to find the info, the colors and layout are distracting, the website does not adhere to the usual layout. the music makes it impossible to use this site while you are at work or in class where most people do their online shopping.;)

it's a disaster. on this website some over-creative webdesigner did what HE wanted and not what's useful for the customer and serves the purpose. usually i leave a website after 30sec if i can't get what i want and shop somewhere else. no good webdesigner should create something like this and no reputable company should represent themselfs to customers like this.
but hey, everybody see's things different and shops at different websites.:)

my two cents.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't buy a Crumpler bag just because their website is so atrocious.

Actually, I'm a designer and I think the site is great... infact I work at a rather large web design firm and I just sent that site out to our entire company the other day as inspiration. It's VERY creative and fun. For people like myself, creating your standard run of the mill, boring ass HTML experience gets to be ont he tiring side. Obviously this site is not going to win site of the year, but it was fun enough to catch my attention, and I bought a bag from them... then I passed the site on to about 300 other people, many of which who own 12-17" laptops.
