How often do you guys go thru screen shields

I used to go through 'em every month or two, until I started using "skins" material instead of the multi-pack screen "protector" things. Maybe I was just buying really cheap crap, maybe I'm exceptionally hard on the things, or maybe I'm exceptionally picky...but it seems to me that materials other than the kind of stuff that Zagg/BodyGuardz/BSE uses just deteriorate rapidly into a mess of micro-scratches which become harder and harder to ignore.

I got mine on Dec 25, and don't use a screen cover. I get lots of prints on it, but carry a small microfiber cloth and that seems to take them right off.

I used a couple for the first 2-3 months after I got my iphone then I gave up on replacing them. Screen got 2 light scratched so far but not very noticeable when using it.
I had the 1st gen touch and that had a few scratches which were noticeable but when I got my 2nd gen ipod I started using a screen protector and change it every 3-4 months.
Yea seriously. The screen is extremely resilient.
People buy them because they don't know any better.
You're exactly right, and as long as 3rd part manufacturers can convince prospective iPod touch/ phone users that they must protect their screen, they'll keep making a bundle.
I have to admit I was initially hesitant seeing as my previous iPod was a classic, but fortunately I did a bit of research and I'm so glad I did. It seems the only people that get the 'scratched screen' look are those that buy screen protectors. The reason? Because screen protecters are very scratch prone.
I can tell you the worst that's happened to my touchs screen is a few smudges, but they are easily removed using a lint-free cloth.
I'm using a protector that was included with my case. Based on the record so far, it should last a good long while, but I'm easy on things.
I do cringe at the thought of the people who pay $15 (or more!) for two sheets of plastic film at the Apple Store or other places, and then complain that they can't install them without bubbles. It's not that hard...
Let's face it, the whole iPod accessories ecosystem is a huge racket with inflated margins. Injection molded plastic, cables, films, and power adapters sold at many times what they cost, even with indirect costs factored in. Then there are the ultra-expensive headphones with very liberal warranty replacement policies; uhh, guess what, they probably couldn't afford to just send brand new replacements for every frayed cord if the costs weren't factored into the pricing.
I tried to succumb with only a case because it provide genuine utility in different ways.

That's because it's a first gen iPod touch. Apple only introduced the tougher screen in it's later models.
No Apple introduced an oleophobic (oil-resistant) coating on the iPhone 3gs and the 3rd gen iPod touch. But otherwise the glass screens were the same glass as used before.
Bought one of the first 1gs when they first came out....never used a screen protector...just an occasional wipe with the cloth that came with it. Still as pristine as the day I bought it. In my opinion, not needed at all!
Now, the most ironic thing about this is, the ad at the bottom of the screen is a ad for iPhone screen protectors XD

I'm on my second Invisible shield from the time I got my Touch a little over 2 years ago. And I didn't even really need to replace it the first time, it was just starting to separate at the edges. The one I have on it now is a little scratched, but it works well enough so I don't think I'll be replacing it soon
how about those possible times when your eating breakfast and you spill syrup on your screen? or those times when your eating food and some sticky sauce gets on your screen. thats why. and besides my friend just got a ipod touch 3g, and he has a huge sratch on the bottom just a little above the home button to the right.
How about those times you're eating breakfast and you spill syrup over your MacBooks keyboard? Or coffee?
Seriously though, an accident like that is easliy avoidable if you don't EAT OR DRINK near an expensive piece of technology.
I'm not silly enough to have my touch out while eating.
i had an power support anti glare on mine for about 1 yr then it got some scratches and it wasn't anti-glare enough anymore due to wear and tear. i am using a glossy one from speck which is okay but scratches real easy. im gonna go buy another power support one when i get the chance.
Before you go out and buy another screen shield, why don you just try one week of nothing on the screen. I guarantee you that unless you're heaps rough with it, it won't get any scratches.
That's what I basically did, I gave my new touch a trial period with no screen shield, over a month later and my screen is still as scratch-free as the day I got it.
I don't believe this. Mine scratched to rat **** in only a couple of months. The glass scratches so easily. My iPhone camera died and received a replacement. Since then I have kept a screen protector on it. I replace it every 3 months.
The glass doesn't scratch at all. Under normal usage. I had my 1G iPod touch naked (no case, no screen protector) for over 1 year. It was completely scratch-free.
So far, I've only bought new screen protectors when I sell my iPod and buy a new one. The screen protector already on my iPod is sold with the iPod.
